President Obama to give free admission to National Parks for all fourth graders and their families

President Obama to give free admission to National Parks for all fourth graders and their families

by Jen Hayden

Glacier National Park

This is awesome!

President Obama will announce Thursday that the National Park Service will give all fourth graders and their families free admission to national parks and other federal lands for a full year.

The Every Kid in a Park initiative is part of an effort to get schoolchildren outdoors and more active. It will start in the school year that begins next fall, which coincides with the 100th anniversary of the National Parks Service in 2016.

Family admission to national parks usually costs $80 for an annual pass, but fourth graders and their families will be able to get a free pass that will give them admission to national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, and other federal public lands and waters, according to a White House official who spoke on condition of anonymity to allow the president to make the announcement.

No such thing as a free lunch. Someone has to pay for this. And the parks will be more crowded than ever.

quite unfair to those who don't currently have a fourth grader. And what proof will be required?

I spent the big bucks (ten of them) a few years ago for my Golden Age Passport. Once you turn 62 you're eligible, and it lasts forever. Unless you lose it, then you'll have to buy another one.

And at many of the parks family members get in free along with the senior.

The White House - Feb 19, 2015

At Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory Academy in Chicago, the President speaks at the designation of three new National Monuments, February 19, 2015.

The announcement in the OP is in this video with the creation of the three new monuments.

He also makes the point these lands are not just for the rich. Which is what the move to privatize the parks really is about giving them their own fiefdoms.

And he brings up the labor history, the right to organize with unions and racial discrimination!

Very well played. Thanks, Obama!

The calm and optimism of Obama, how it must drive the gloom and doom long faces wild with madness...who does not see the contrast?

Comment on YouTube link

"What I love about this president is that there is nothing he has done that won't hold up to scrutiny. He is above board in everything he dose. It is about time we have a president who we can trust implicitly. God-Bless you Mr. President! "

You are the also the most HONEST President ever, the ugly liars can not fathom honesty most of all.

"I learned about love and loyalty and friendship here..."

By keep these special places in trust, places of incomparable beauty, to keep for future generations as we did. These places teach us about ourselves. We must protect this magnificent inheritance for our future. I have protected more public lands than any President before me."

"All kids should be witness to this God given grandeur.....put down the Smartphones for a minute - breath in the air, come see the bounty given to all of us."

Can you imagine any of the Republicans even approach that simple level of heartfelt speech, at least that without exploding in hypocrisy?

Folks are listening, not through the corrupt MSM, but through sources like this video.

Obama Unfiltered, Obama Unchained from the machinations of the filtered messages of the enslaved to personalities and mullah media.
..........

We can trust Obama, implicitly.....Obama is winning the trust folks have rightly taken back from the corporate media.

I'm not a fourth grader, and I don't mind.

A trip to a National Park could change the lives of some of these children. For many it will be an experience they'll never forget. We need to stop spending money on bombing countries to smithereens and devote more to improving the quality of life for all Americans, such as providing free access to parks and museums.
