(5,082 posts)Don't you get tired for shilling for Un-American policies. It's always yah-teaming with the same commenter too. You should get paid you know. My opinions is that anyone who supports the kind of spying on the American people that's occurring is the real "Comrade". And having private contractors fleece the US Treasury with questionable contracts is quite criminal.

(5,082 posts)Seriously? Are you some kind of NSA troll who always appears on every spying thread to convince us we should be happy to be spied on by invoking Ron Paul? That's so cliche. It doesn't work because none of us are divided about Ron Paul and hardly think about him. You are the one who reminds me of Republicans. Only someone like you would think it's ok to listen to phone conversations or emails of attorneys, journalists, judges, political reps and candidates, generals, activists, businessmen, researchers, engineers and Buerocrats to gain leverage over them or groups they represent. How have you even been allowed to spew such Un-American drivel for so long?

(62,325 posts)that the film had just won an Oscar, that it has received rave reviews from all over the world, and now the British Academy Award also, the Directors Guild Award, and has been described as a 'film for the ages', something that will be viewed by generations to come capturing some moments in the frightening, the dark period we have entered into, where we are close to losing our Constitutional Rights, something THAT audience understood, and yet, the hero of the movie, rather than being lauded for his service to this country by exposing Crimes against the Constitution, has been called a 'traitor' here by some, mostly on the Right, while torturers are called 'patriots who were frustrated'.
Yeah, I think it was a great line.

Seems the New Democrats hate whistle-blowers, investigative journalists and protestors who try to look behind the authoritarian curtain. Freedom is hard work, authoritarianism is easy.

(15,314 posts)I know that corporate theft of public funds has been around before the Greek/Egyptian/Chinese empires but I think that groups like Carlyle/Booze/Dyntech have perfected the execution. Of course it helps to have installed lackeys in every branch of the government as well as our "protecting" agencies.
Contract/cash payouts are immediate rewards. Investigative reporting is hard work and has much smaller payouts. I'm surprised that there are are any honest reporters working on any of the major media outlets.........

(5,082 posts)It amazes me how people focus on so called treason instead of the crimes that affect us all like stalking us. We need revolution not revolutionaries. But I'm sure the same criminals and detractors would still find a way to excuse crimes against the people even if so called traitors didn't expose it. It's probably also treasonous to out CIA drug dealing or murder but I'm not sympathetic. And yes I don't believe those who incessantly blitz these threads with propaganda and stalk every dissenter are real Democratic activists. They are way too obviously biased with an agenda. Maybe they are NSA Democrats...I bet there is a few.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)'nationalism' and 'patriotism' or for some childlike 'trust' in authority. And none of those instances could have occurred without enablers among the population. If more people had spoken up during those times, before it was too late, what a different world this would be.
Which is why, no matter how angry they get those who care about the civil liberties we are entitled to, like Greenwald and others, must be supported and defended, strongly.
I think that is happening now. A few years ago I was afraid they would succeed in silencing Greenwald the way they have silence others.
But I think there is a real fear growing among the people, not just of this country, but around the world, that if they don't stand up now, it may be too late.
It isn't so long ago that a huge price was paid for apathy and complacency. While some Americans may not remember or care too much about something 'so far away', others remember it well.

(38,187 posts)I'm glad I prefer to stay closer to the left than cozy up to the more conservative types on DU. I'm just not into hanging anyone. That is just awful.
I wish I could see the documentary, but do not have HBO. Maybe Netflix might have it one day?

(26,060 posts)he was going to get arrested. Isn't that what he was trying to whine about for the last year or so? Why, I'm surprised the President himself didn't take the time to come down and arrest him. As if this award doesn't mean he's a narcissistic twit. That said, good for the filmmaker. I'm sure Snowden is thrilled he's stuck in Russia because he trusted Glenn.

meanwhile in bizarro-world I can only read 25% of the posts in this thread, but know the invisible 75% are all anti-Greenwald and anti-Snowden. (Or replies to same, which is more the case now that I look at all the invisible ones.)

(19,926 posts)a couple from someone claiming Sid and Skinner are the same person.
99% of deletes are from the person who got three hides in this thread for using profane name-calling and calling for a pulitzer prize winning journalist to be hanged because he was trying to avoid having ten hides instead of just three.
There are a couple of other self-deletes, one of which I know was not inflammatory and was in response to the person claiming Sid and Skinner were the same person. I don't know why the other self-delete that I saw was in there.
Point being, this is NOT a case of "both sides do it". The anti-Greenwald poster, who revealed himself to be anti-first amendment and anti-rule of law, basically anti-constitution was the only one who was out of control. The people who respect GG and Snowden did nothing like that, not even close. Let that be on the record.

(3,247 posts)Never said or meant to suggest that the bulk of the replies were invisible to me for any reason other than that. I know how badly infected DU is and has been for a long time with deranged anti-Greenwald fanatics. If ten of them show up attacking, and a hundred honest DUers reply to them, that makes 110 invisible posts, although the hundred honest DUers would never be on my ignore list.
Until that is I look at the thread without logging in.
cui bono
(19,926 posts)I don't use ignore - and sometimes I wonder why I want to go crazy - so that didn't occur to me.

(1,917 posts)looks like the thought police are trying very hard to make GG look bad.
He's a reporter, Snowden is a whistle-blower lacking protection from a "free" country.
Secrets don't belong in a Democratic society. Some people have a problem understanding that.
I guess they weren't here when JFK was in office. He abhorred secrecy, as is shown on another thread here.
Even Jefferson wrote of the dangers of a government that keeps secrets from the voting public.
Some people just don't get it.

(45,788 posts)The director invited him to come up.
"She was first contacted by Edward Snowden in January 2013 after he was unable to establish encrypted communications with Greenwald. She flew to Hong Kong in late May 2013, where over the course of eight days she filmed Snowden in his hotel room at the Mira Hotel in Hong Kong. Later, she traveled to Moscow where she filmed a second interview with Snowden conducted by Greenwald."
Petty, petty response.

(62,325 posts)producers invite him, just as others who received oscars invite those who made their Oscars possible, to acknowledge as Poitras said,, the brave 'whistle blowers and JOURNALISTS' who made the Oscar possible, I'll take THEIR word that he more than deserved to be there. And they decided to allow HIM to hold the Oscar.
First a Pulitzer, now an Oscar and rave reviews about the documentary itself.

"Greenwald is a traitor! Snowden is a traitor!"
LMFAO at the pearl clutching.
People with drive, passion and courage are reminding us all that our government's obsession with citizen surveillance has gone completely off the rails, putting us all at risk.
But no. That's not what matters.
What matters? How dare anyone go off script and embarrass our President.
That's the inconvenient truth isn't it?
NSA and CIA have become a clear and present danger to our country.
Look at Iraq and see their handiwork.
Fuck the security concern trolls.
Greenwald and Snowden are classic American heroes.

(19,926 posts)In fact, this one was made for informational purposes. But I'm sure you know that. You just wanted to make a snide remark against GG and Snowden. The only thing you accomplished by that is to show that you are either an NSA apologist, trying to smear/ridicule GG and Snowden or are encredibly ignorant of the power of documentaries to get out extremely important information. Information that the corporate media doesn't provide us.
So tell me, why do you want to lessen the importance of GG and Snowden and documentaries in general?

(5,082 posts)I have a question. I'm not familiar with people here personally so maybe someone else knows. Why do I see the same disrupters tagteaming on NSA threads always. It's the only place I really see them and they are always heavily weighted to NSA or CIA support and personally attack those who don't support Soviet style surveillance if the American people. They also always try to derail thoughtful dialogue and hijack threads into obscenities or distracting ad hominems. After reading so many articles about people paid by military contractors to control conversations online and "manage" public opinion I wonder if DU is as immune to this as it thinks it is.
