http://www.alternet.org/tea-party-and-right/scott-walkers-political-record-lies-deceit-corruption-and-revenge'More Nixonian than Nixon' is the dead-on description of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, now viewed as a serious contender for the 2016 Republican nomination, in the eyes of former Nixon aide John Dean.
Nixon, the force behind Watergates sleazy, secretive fundraising from the super-rich and political dirty tricks, has perhaps met his match in Scott Walker, a governor who would literally delete the search for truth from a state mission statementand then lie about it.
However, when I first met Walker I back in 1996, I would have described him as about the nicest conservative I had encountered in public life. I was lobbying for a progressive coalition, building support in the Wisconsin State Legislature for a campaign reform that would set up rapid disclosure of campaign contributions. Then-state Rep. Scott Walker proved to be an unexpected and enthusiastic sponsor.
Walker was one of the most conservative of Republican legislators, but he was unfailingly respectful and friendly to me as we held news conferences together and strategized over coffee about how to win passage of the disclosure bill. His friendliness and aw-shucks manner seemed to be grounded in his background as a small-town preachers son and Eagle Scout.

(36,063 posts)the voting pattern for presidential elections is somewhat misleading... it's a purple state and the balance is pretty even. Because dem participation is a few percent better in general elections statewide democratic candidates do better in those years...but otherwise the tea-party and inter-class resentments has risen and prevails with the assistance of Koch-related money.
This pattern is an important factor in Feingold's consideration about trying to regain his senate seat in 2016. If the pattern of the past holds its going to be a bit better for a dem senatorial candidate in 2016. But that's really unknown.
In general, dem voter participation here is increasing , but that is very well matched by the tea-party making this state more a battle ground than a safe haven.
The tea-party is very motivated against the left. 2016 is going to make WI an important state as the republicans attempt to hold the senate, and want to defeat any Dem presidential candidate. To win WI dems are going need someone on the ticket who is very appealing to bring out the now election sore dems in record numbers...and of course such a person will also bring out the r's.
