Binyamin Netanyahus dramatic declaration to world leaders in 2012 that Iran was about a year away from making a nuclear bomb was contradicted by his own secret service, according to a top-secret Mossad document.
It is part of a cache of hundreds of dossiers, files and cables from the worlds major intelligence services one of the biggest spy leaks in recent times.
Brandishing a cartoon of a bomb with a red line to illustrate his point, the Israeli prime minister warned the UN in New York that Iran would be able to build nuclear weapons the following year and called for action to halt the process.
But in a secret report shared with South Africa a few weeks later, Israels intelligence agency concluded that Iran was not performing the activity necessary to produce weapons. The report highlights the gulf between the public claims and rhetoric of top Israeli politicians and the assessments of Israels military and intelligence establishment.

(10,362 posts)It means he got up in front of the UN and lied, Colin Powell style.
His voters won't care much. They're right-wing extremists who don't care about his behavior, no matter how corrupt or deceitful. He still looks certain to be PM due to the coalition of religious fanatics.
It isolates him more, diplomatically. He's turning Israel into a diplomatic pariah state.

(7,635 posts)Political leaders will ignore the facts to push whatever agenda they have. Hell, Bush and his cohorts led us to war in Iraq using the same tactics. They were documents showing that the intelligence community did not believe Saddam had WMD or was connected to 9/11 and Al Qaeda in any way. Yet, this did not stop Cheney to pretend the opposite on every talk show.
I think knowingly lying while in office should be a prosecutable offense.

Sickening. The truth will out. Cheney also has blood on his hands....
I am grateful to God my son didn't die in Iraq for Cheney and Co's greed and avarice.

(84,711 posts)Who knows where it will go..but, if it stops BIBI from doing his "Political Action Committee" pontificating before our US Joint House/Senate doing "Stand Up Ovations" 23 or more times to him....then what could go wrong?
We need to save our Congress from Embarrassment. Hopefully "Bibi" will "See the Light" and find that he has a "Pressing Engagement" in Israel which will allow him to "gracefully exit" from this budding FIASCO that the Repub "RW" set up to their own discredit with his Partisan Speech just to get support at home for his Re-Election.
