(5,514 posts)People react to the words people use. It is worthwhile to examine those reactions. In instances where there is legitimacy behind those reactions, it is a valid measure to examine our words to determine how phrasing could be improved.
Personally, I ddidn't know what she said at or after the Oscars until it was brought up in my race wquity class. There, people shared their thoughts. It is possible to discuss potential interpretations of phrasing without attacking the messenger or disagreeing with the substance.

2) Talking down to black people and minimizing their struggle, as if they haven't been fighting for equal pay since 1865, is wrong?
We don't have to throw out Arquette's main point to recognize the efforts of black people.
Aren't you technically "mansplaining" to black women right now? If I were you, I'd drop that term while debating this issue, seeing as you're a man.
