This man was clearly off balance when he got out of the car with his hands in the air. He hit the concrete hard when they tasered him. I am glad the FHP is investigating. I would like to know the condition of this man after being tasered with his hands up and falling to the concrete.
From the Miami Herald:
FHP investigating video showing troopers stun-gunning elderly man on 18-Mile Stretch
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating an incident captured on video and posted online that shows troopers use a stun gun an elderly man with his arms raised on the 18-Mile Stretch.
FHP spokeswoman Capt. Nancy Rasmussen said in a statement: "This incident is currently under investigation.
She said once the investigation is closed, FHP will release more details.
The incident happened around 4:45 p.m. Feb. 14 at mile marker 112.5 of U.S. 1, said FHP spokeswoman Lt. Kathleen McKinney. That's right around the Miami-Dade/Monroe County line.

(32,713 posts)young healthy cops with their guns out felt their lives were endangered by this out of control man that was most likely older than their own grand pa's, with his hands in the air. Hell, he might have been a kung fu expert....or something.

(115,678 posts)same way. OBVIOUSLY he is using his air pushing bending powers to shove it out of his way so he can be further ahead in line. He MUST be stopped!!!! And look how old he appears. Notice that? Why do you think someone with those powers would look so old except it proves he is using his life forces to bend the air for his trivial purposes and what will be next??????/?///

(7,745 posts)It's not the DB Cooper case.
What process are they following? The right thing to do is...
1. Watch video
2. Arrest the officers involved
3. Fire the officers involved

(12,506 posts)I used to think a high school diploma might be enough to qualify as a cop. I think they better start demanding a BS degree in criminology and start rigorous annual psychological examinations in order to remain a cop.
We used to call them pigs in the 1960s, but that moniker disappeared for a couple of decades. Sadly, the pigs are back.

(19,566 posts)Too often abuses such as this one go unreported due to the police scaring the person with possible bogus resisting arrest and assault on an officer charges. If you don't know there's a video out there proving your innocence, it's difficult to prove you were the victim.

(88,117 posts)Without the video it would have gone unnoticed most likely. The FHP is apparently hearing from news sites from around the world now.

(19,566 posts)It was a sad case of abuse against the elderly man, who appeared to be trying to cooperate as well as he was physically capable. Maybe the elderly man will get a bit of justice out of this now that the video is out there and the media has taken up the cause.

(65,616 posts)Cops will NEVER ever have the respect of most Americans as long as they allow fuck ups to stay employed. The working class is familiar with people getting fired when they fuck up. It disturbs us to watch injustice and indifference and not take it personally.
I expect nothing to change, cops think they can do whatever the fuck they want to and for the most part can.

cardio- or neorological disorder that a taser could cause a fatality.
Internal Affairs investigations should never be assigned to the agency involved.

(2,682 posts)I see paid vacations in these officers' future...... and no other consequences.
This is following standard procedure: call for an internal investigation, give the offending officers paid vacations, wait until the public outrage dies down and then go back to business as usual.
