He took office January 2001, 9/11 was later that year.
He left office January 2008.

Not quite 7 1/2 years later.

It takes a skilled machinist days of work to craft the gun.

The Pentagon was the cocked gun pointed at Bin Laden, and The Accidental President couldn't figure out how to pull the trigger.

And Obama had to spend 3 years figure out where Bin Laden was before the situation was "idiot-ready".

Not only was OBL well connected to the House of Saud and the House of Bush, but he was a useful tool alive to help justify Bush's illegal and immoral GWOT. After they gave him safe passage out of Tora Bora into Pakistan, I suspect they always had a pretty good idea where OBL was. And they were quite happy keeping him under house arrest so they could use him when it was politically expedient to remind the American people that the 9/11 boogyman was still on the loose.

Essentially, the same military, analysts, and intel were available to Bush as it was to Obama. The difference was Obama was willing to go after him, Bush wasn't.

Instead he was so smart he used OBL for his own means?

So the saying should be that if Bush was an idiot he would have gotten OBL, but Bush was too smart? According to the GOP.

I'm going by the OP's statement that some republicans are saying "any idiot could have gotten OBL". As usual, I disagree with their simplistic talking point. I'd counsel these morons to ask why Bush, with the same tools at his disposal as Obama had, was unable to get him in 7-1/2 years. I think the only logical conclusion is, because he didn't want to.

I think Bush actually played up his "idiot" personna...it probably helped him to get away with some pretty criminal policies - the "idiots" that voted for him didn't have a problem voting for a guy that reminded them of themselves and the Democrats probably bought the "this guy is an idiot" because, otherwise, we'd be confronted with a very inconvenient truth - that we were dealing with a sociopath in the WH.

that would mean he was a sociopath criminal. And they would be right.

The GOP is right, any idiot could have ordered the military to get Osama, but since they had their socipath in the WH, Osama stayed alive all these years.

Any idiot would have ordered Osama killed but since their lower than an idiot Bush didn't do that simple thing, they are pissing themselves silly.

The look of a Clueless, Useful Idiot. Or Mission Accomplished?

Most people reacted to Bush's "My Pet Goat" either with sympathy ("gee, I could see myself in his position&quot or with disdain "what a buffoon, why's he sitting there like a moron while the country is under attack?" but there's a 3rd option - he played his role perfectly on 9/11. Because no forceful reaction meant no military action.
