Julius Henson robocall jury seated; defense motions denied

Political operative is former consultant to Gov. Robert Ehrlich

UPDATED 8:34 PM EDT Apr 30, 2012

BALTIMORE - A political consultant for former Gov. Bob Ehrlich is set to face a jury. Julius Henson is the second man to face trial in the case of political robocalls sent to thousands of voters on Election Day 2010.

WBAL-TV 11 News I-Team lead investigative reporter Jayne Miller reported Monday evening that a jury was selected and opening statements are scheduled for Tuesday.

Henson is the self-admitted author of the robocall that was sent to more than 100,000 voters in Baltimore City and Prince George's County. The call suggested the election was over before the polls had closed.

Prosecutors have said the call was intended to suppress the black vote. The call had no authority line identifying its sponsor, which prosecutors said added up to criminal fraud.

It seems this might be the kind of story ripe for a little media attention. But I'm sure this is just an isolated incident, and it's, like, totally a coincidence that the people targeted by the robocalls just happened to be likely Democratic voters. So, there's no story here. Certainly no little twerp in a pimp costume running around to any studio that will seat him.
