UK Parliamentary Report: Murdoch Unfit To Lead

http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entries/uk-parliamentary-report-murdoch-unfit-to-lead

A scathing UK parliamentary report into the culture of phone hacking in Rupert Murdoch’s media empire concludes that he “is not a fit person to exercise the stewardship of a major international company.”

From the Associated Press:

Parliament’s cross-party Culture, Media and Sport committee said News International, the British newspaper division of Murdoch’s News Corp., had deliberately ignored evidence of malpractice, covered up evidence and frustrated efforts to expose wrongdoing.

Murdoch has insisted he was unaware that hacking was widespread at his now-shuttered News of the World tabloid, blaming underlings for keeping him in the dark.

The legislators said if that was true, “he turned a blind eye and exhibited willful blindness to what was going on in his companies.”

“We conclude, therefore, that Rupert Murdoch is not a fit person to exercise the stewardship of a major international company,” the report by the panel of 11 lawmakers said.

and that suits TPTB just fine. Trouble is, the same PTB would ensure that a similarly corrupt, malleable individual gets installed in his place, seeing that they're unwilling to allow such a vast media empire to be run in any way other than a mighty Wurlitzer for RW propaganda.

Clearly this isn't over by any stretch of the imagination. The Murdochs have full well stepped into it.

The Prune avoids such an investigation in the US if Fox News does a 180 turn. It would be worth it for the exploding heads and the likes of O'Reilly and Hannity extolling the virtue of Obama and the Democratic Party, which they would because their only altar is one created out of stacks of green paper.

Pick up the phone, Mr. President!
