WASHINGTON — Rep. Brad Ashford was nearly beaned with a purse Tuesday while waiting for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to begin his high-profile address to Congress.

Netanyahu had just arrived, to applause. Ashford, a Democrat, was standing by a back wall in the crowded House chamber.

Just above him in the House gallery, casino magnate and major GOP campaign contributor Sheldon Adelson had a front-row seat — along with his wife, Miriam.

Miriam Adelson accidentally knocked her purse over the edge of the gallery to the floor below at that point, narrowly missing Ashford’s head. A startled Ashford picked up the purse and handed it off to someone else.
