Rupert Murdoch is history - he will die in disgrace

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/blog/2012/may/01/select-committee-report-james-rupert-murdoch

Corporate governance watchdog Pirc has commented:

This report is a very damaging for News Corp, and a number of the individuals indentified. The committee is clear that parliament was misled by senior News International staff, and that the company sought to buy the silence of some of those involved. The crucial question for shareholders is what this means for the governance of News Corp. The report is critical of the lack of effective governance at both News International and News Corp. Therefore there is likely to be a renewed push by shareholders for reform on the News Corp board."

Can't wait for investigations about Fox and AIles.
They should all be sent to prison for criminality.

3. The next brick to hit the Murdoch empire, I hope, is...

that Ofcom rules that News Corp would NOT "be a fit and proper owner of the satellite broadcaster BSkyB" and that BSkyB, under News Corp, is NOT "fit and proper to continue to hold its broadcast licences."

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012/apr/26/ofcom-extends-bskyb-investigation

BSkyB is very lucrative for News Corp and to lose it and/or it's licences would decrease the value of the corporation enormously and, I believe, would result in the shareholders of News Corp racing to dump Murdoch and anyone affiliated with him and his empire.

I had thought the Ofcom investigation had fizzled out. Interesting.

9. News Corp and BSkyB shares rise on talk Rupert Murdoch may sell stake in satellite broadcasting comp

<snip>
Shares in Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation and BSkyB rose on Tuesday as experts warned he may have to sever all ties with the satellite broadcasting business he founded.

News Corp could be forced to sell off its entire 39pc stake in BSkyB, or watch the £12bn pay-to-view company lose its valuable licence to air television.

In London, BSkyB shares rose 13 to close at 691p, buoyed by expectations of a sale and ahead of its third-quarter results on Wednesday. In New York, News Corp shares went up 32 to $19.93 in morning trading.

The share price increases came as Ofcom, the UK media regulator that has the power to revoke BSkyB's broadcasting licence if it decides that any director or controlling shareholder is not "fit and proper", signalled it would take into account a damning report by MPs.

The Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee claimed Mr Murdoch was "not a fit person to exercise stewardship of any international company", and that News Corp was "corporately" responsible for "wilful blindness" over the News of the World phone-hacking scandal.

10. Ooohhhh, that's gotta hurt...

This puts the Board of BSkyB in an even smaller box, imo. The shareholders should have voted to remove James Murdoch and his sycophants from the Board when they had the chance, it's too late now as it's in Ofcom's hands which now has the damning report by the CMSS Committee.

If the Murdoch empire tries to hold on to their shares, the value will drop and quite likely drop precipitously.

Brick by brick, the sleazy, rapacious empire is being dismantled and disgraced. All good news!

4. Unfortunately, his US empire is intact

although having his sons implicated in the UK has destroyed his chances for setting up that media dynasty his ego demanded.

I sincerely doubt he will die broke. He will be broken and bitter, though.

8. I sincerely hope that's true.

but true schadenfreude would see him put out to pasture, the BoD firing Ailes, and his empire turning into a bastion of real news with a distinctly liberal slant.

Then it wouldn't matter how rich he is. He would be truly miserable.
