Demand censure, or an investigation whether the Logan Act was violated. Senator Cotton has admitted publically that his goal was to torpedo the negotiations with Iran. Call your Reps and Senators to demand action. Let's at least make them squirm.

(12,233 posts)How does congress investigate theirselves when they are the perpetrators? And wouldn't the outcome of the negotiations be the ultimate determining factor in whether or not the letter was treason or violated the Logan Act? They wrote an "open letter"; addressed to no one in particular, in the light of day, and with no promises or "special arrangements" being made for an outcome the Rrpunlicans wish to see. It's not like Reagan campaign negotiating with Iran to hold the Americans hostage until after the election so that they would be funneled weapons to use in their war against Iraq at that time behind the scenes from President Carter and the US Govt that he was "in charge" of.
What they did was stupid, makes Americans look stupid, steps right up to that border of treason and/ or acts of sedition... But ultimately, it makes the "heads of state" in both Iran and America look weak and ineffectual... That the negotiations are a farce and the "real players" won't allow peace to really happen. The fanatical goons, backed by powerful monied interests who do financially well when the world is at war, are essentially showing their hand in the game and telling the world, "we are in charge, and we will let you peons know if we want war, we will have war!"

Because Republicans won the majority in the Senate, there is no way to make them squirm. Elections have consequences.

(14,195 posts)Why the snark?
Agnosticsherbet
(11,619 posts)So nothing will happen in the Senate, sadly. The other side has the power. It is like asking Al Capone to investigate himself.

(6,641 posts)he wrote back that he didn't care what I thought, he would vote however he pleased. (that is a quote not a summary) Do you expect to be listened to by these fanatics?

(14,195 posts)Why he voted the way he did on more than one occaision. And while I disagreed with him, i could understand he thinking and his vote.
What happened to reasoned discussion? Agreeing to disagree without being disagreeable?

(3,290 posts)to my Senator Mark Kirk. I have not received a reply as yet and frankly do not expect one.
The following is my second letter;
Senator Kirk:
I am writing this as a follow up on my previous letter to you.
I see that you have not removed your name from that unpatriotic, despicable letter sent to the hard line faction of the Iranian government, a letter in which you and the 46 others showed your disloyalty to this country and it's president. A letter sent on behalf of your benefactors, the israeli government and it's warmongering leader netanyahu rather than for the citizens you supposedly represent. Since you and your compatriot netanyahu are so anxious for a war against Iran I would suggest that you and Tehran Tom and the other signers of that letter, who are attempting to disrupt these very important negotiations, be the first one's on the front lines. Perhaps if the signers or their children and or grandchildren had to serve in yet another unnecessary war, peaceable agreements would be more desirable.
In closing I think anyone who signed that letter is truly unfit to hold office and will donate to and work to see you and they are not reelected if you or they choose to run again after such a shameful action.
A disgusted constituent,

(14,195 posts)Really, this should be the hot topic of discussion, not Hillary's email

(2,510 posts)Ring their phones off the hook, if they signed it.
Just meant that GOP Congress won't open any "ethics "inquiries,
since the Hillary committees take up way too much of their time...

(14,195 posts)I fully believe the emails and calls they have gotten, and the tweets to them referring to #47traitors had to have helped. Even now #47traitors is the second hottest trend on twitter. Mind you the repubs have tried 47patriots and failed, epic fail.
Right now there is news coverage of the twitter response against Cotton which is helping keep the trend alive.
