http://www.buzzfeed.com/rossalynwarren/a-woman-is-writing-feminist-messages-on-period-pads-and-postShe first shared her project idea on Tumblr two days ago. Since then, her photo has been shared over 100,000 times.
The messages shes writing on the pads focus on womens rights issues, such as tackling street harassment and taking a stand against victim blaming.
The message Elonë shared in the original viral photo was inspired by Twitter user @cutequeer96, who made the comment last September.
Nice! But why are the messages in English? :shurg:

(37,748 posts)I think awareness rather than enthusiasm is the goal-- something it seems to be achieving. Bravo, indeed.

(3,747 posts)Because it's the perfect medium for this. It makes the point pretty well, don't you think?

(25,406 posts)And writing messages on Depends and sticking them up around town would be a perfect medium for raising awareness about issues affecting senior citizens.

(21,020 posts)Because the main point should be the issue itself...not the method of raising the issue.
In fact, I predict that at least half, if not more, of the posts made to this topic will probably be more about the way the message is being publicized than about the message itself.
Also, I think using a period pad makes a bit of a mockery of the issue.
F4lconF16
(3,747 posts)Why? I thought it got its point across clearly. Thing is, there are many people out there who are more disgusted by menstruation than rape. It's a snarky middle finger to those people, creates awareness, and does so in a fun, innocuous manner.
Btw, you say the focus should be on the issue, but then criticize the delivery?

(55,894 posts)would have served same purpose, caused less litter, less waste and it would have looked better.
That pad doesn't look all that well adhered to the pole, either. It'll be on the ground soon and THEN it will be disgusting.
At least a flyer would more likely stay attached to walls, make less litter and degrade when it falls down.

A large pizza can feed a family of four.

(25,406 posts)and a purifying bath called a "mikveh" is required before she is allowed to have sex again.
....
Its main uses nowadays are:
by Jewish women to achieve ritual purity after menstruation or childbirth;
by Jewish men to achieve ritual purity (see details below);
as part of a traditional procedure for conversion to Judaism;
to immerse newly acquired utensils used in serving and eating food.
In Orthodox Judaism, these regulations are steadfastly adhered to and, consequently, the mikveh is central to an Orthodox Jewish community; they formally hold in Conservative Judaism as well. The existence of a mikveh is considered so important in Orthodox Judaism that an Orthodox community is required to construct a mikveh before building a synagogue, and must go to the extreme of selling Torah scrolls or even a synagogue if necessary, to provide funding for the construction.[5] Reform Judaism and Reconstructionist Judaism regard the biblical regulations as anachronistic to some degree, and consequently do not put much importance on the existence of a mikveh. Some opinions within Conservative Judaism have sought to retain the ritual requirements of a mikveh while recharacterizing the theological basis of the ritual in concepts other than ritual purity.

I have always found it difficult to understand the hardliners of any religion. I have always been left wondering where the joy is in a life like that.
