We are going on a river cruise, never leaving US. Got a form to email the cruise company...

The form they want me to send Via that most secure of methods - email. They want:
Name
Permanent address
Home phone
Work phone
Cellphone
Email
Birth date
City,State of birth
Country of birth
Citizenship
Id (drivers license, militery, or passport) #
Issue date
Expiration date
Place of issuance

And they want all that sent via email to put in their (how secure?) database so they can present it to the TSA and Coast Guard. If the TSA & Coast Guard need all this info for me to take a one week river cruise in the USA then they should be freaking mandated to build a secure database where people can go to input the data, and they can send a report to the cruise company saying xyz people are good to go.
But seriously - they want me to email all that info in the clear? Really? Identity theft heaven....

If Coast Guard & TSAa require it, fine. Host a secure database for it. It is absurd to email peacebird Mar 2015 #3

The only benign angle I can see for their reasoning is to identify a passenger to family in case of an accident. Even then, like you say, it's a domestic cruise: Shouldn't be any different from a long distance train trip or excursion.

last summer. We had to provide name, address, birthday, and ID info. I had to email it to them, and we had to show our id when we showed up for the cruise.

I think it's Coast Guard regulations.

what happens with the info. She said that they copy it down for the Coast Guard and after the cruise they delete the emails.

I never had any trouble or ill effects from the cruise people.

So we are expected to email our details with no security..... If the govt needs this info then it should provide a secure place to enter it....
