I inherited a Lexus last fall and decided to try Esurance. They sent me some silly thing to plug into the car's computer and had a fairly decent rate. So I paid for 6 months. As the renewal is coming up April 1, I contacted another local agent and they came within $1 of Esurance's rate, so I took it. When I called Esurance to cancel they informed me they would be taking $50 from my rebate!
I have been dealing with car insurance for the last 50 years and I have never been charged for canceling a policy. What do you think about this?

(60,010 posts)I just assume any corp. or biz is designed to rip me off ( hardly ever wrong about that, damn)
and read reviews of a biz beforehand.
The very first 2 hits on Google under a search for "Esurance fees" shows comments about early cancellation fees.
I usually google for " biz X complaints" and a bunch of consumer reports will pop up.

(23,156 posts)I learned a long time ago to read through almost any contract I'm going to sign. I taught my sons the same thing, and I was so proud of my oldest son when he was buying his first car and read the contract.
Next time I buy a house I'm going to request that copies of all the paperwork be sent to me ahead of time so that I can read everything, since there's not enough time at the closing.

(14,255 posts)$115 a month, no accidents, very low miles a year. Then I got an email from Geico - $40 a month, I called to make sure it was not a trick, when I called esurance to cancel, not only were they very nice - they admitted they could not match Geico - but they refunded money to me, since they had already taken a payment for the month. No $50 penalty or whatever. And Geico has stayed the same for the last year and a half, so not a teaser rate.
Maybe things got more pricey with esurance when Allstate bought it?
