In the delusional minds of some conservatives, the idea of democracy is a scary thing - and the idea of giving the plebs acess to voting rights is even more scary - as poor peole is imposible to be able to know their best from the demagogs - who might promise them everything under the sun.. And who might end up in a form of tyranny never seen before...
That was the logic in the 1800s - when the plebs (aka ordinary working pepole) was fighting for the right to elect their leaders - and was shunned by the political and economical leaders of the time - becouse giving ordinary pepole acess to voting would be a danger to everyone involved... And that is something they do not wanted.... And to the late 1800s - early 1900s it was a fight to give all acess to be able to vote - and often it was clashes with police and other government instruments like the army - before finaly in the last decades of the 1800s - men over 21 year old - with some property was allowed to vote - and then in the early decade of the 1900s, even woman over 21 years old - who owned some property - was allowed to vote - and then in the end a few year after - everyone who was over 21 years old, was able to go vote.... After more than a 100 years of fighting for the right - to vote...
And still - conservatives all over the planet - want to turn back the clock - to a time when the plebs had no voice in the matter of government - and where it is just the wealthy, rich and powerfully who is able to govern - and where the plebs know their place in the world - at the end of the table - like they did it in the 1800s... They tend to have forgotten the little thing called the french revolution who kind of turned upside down everything in that perspect... Not to say the Russian revolution of 1917, who really messed things up for the conservatives...

In their minds, they are just returning to the way things ought to be.
