Imagine what would happen if they weren't police

New York, New York: Two officers were punished for misconduct. The two of them flew to Seattle to investigate a rape allegation that happened in Union Square. They went out with the victim and got drunk with her on a nine-hour bender. After convincing her to stay in the hotel with them, one of the officers climbed into bed with her the next morning and attempted to rip her clothes off. That officer pled guilty to an administrative charge from the incident, resulting in a demotion from the rank of detective, a loss of 30 vacation days, and 10 days of unpaid leave. He was also placed on probation and transferred. The other officer, who was already being investigated for improperly collecting overtime pay, pled to that charge and misconduct in the Seattle incident. He lost 45 vacation days and was suspended for 15 days without pay. He had been in charge of Manhattan’s Special Victims Unit. He was transferred to a public housing assignment.

One was even a SVU detective. Please explain to me again how rape reports are taken seriously by the police?
