Chicago City Council Passes Obama Library Ordinance
CHICAGO Mar 18, 2015, 1:44 PM ET
The Chicago City Council has approved an ordinance that would allow park land on the city's South Side to be used as a site for Barack Obama's presidential library.
The measure passed 47-0 Wednesday. It transfers control of two pieces of park land to the city.
The ordinance makes over 20 acres of land available for use from either Jackson Park or Washington Park. It was crucial to the University of Chicago's bid for the library.
The measure passed with no opposition, as the council sought to send a clear message that all were backing the city's attempt to land the library.
Others bidding for the library are the University of Illinois at Chicago, Columbia University in New York and the University of Hawaii.
