Austin Mayor Steve Adler: ‘White people’ stickers appalling, offensive

http://www.mystatesman.com/news/news/crime-law/exclusively-for-white-people-stickers-found-on-sug/nkY7f/

Employees at two East Austin businesses arrived to work on Wednesday morning to find stickers plastered on the buildings that declared they were “exclusively for white people.”

“Maximum of 5 colored customers/colored BOH staff accepted,” the stickers stated, referring to the “back of house” operations at a restaurant.

The stickers also feature a City of Austin logo and state that the message is “sponsored by the City of Austin Contemporary Partition and Restoration Program.”...

“Today we were the victim of what I consider to be a hate crime against our family and staff at our Eastside location,” the post states. “Our business was built on family and love and we will let that shine on.”

And this is the same area where a Latino business was razed by its landlord, who referred to the tenants as "roaches"!

build an earthship into the side of the hill, and be a complete hermit with a hydroponic garden and a mailbox half a mile away.

Then again, I live in the city and I'm a complete hermit.

Still, the gun battle between two cars on the next street over last night was nerve wracking and I wouldn't have to put up with that shit in the boonies.

Against the gentrification of east Austin. I tend to agree.

It was a hell of a poor way to go about it, if so, but this smells more like an example of pure IRL trolling to me, though, TBH.

this is a sick joke.

The city has also concluded that the businesses that were defaced with the stickers neither made nor knowingly displayed them, according to the statement.

1:30 p.m. update: Stickers that have appeared on at least six East Austin businesses declaring that they are “exclusively for white people” have now drawn the attention of the NAACP and a state lawmaker.

Rep. Dawnna Dukes, D-Austin, took to Facebook to post a photograph of one of the stickers affixed to a window at Rare Trends, a clothing store on East 12th Street.

“Some jokes are not funny,” she wrote. “If this is a joke at all, it is tasteless. … I will be damned if this will occur in my House District … in this historical black community or any community.”

I didn't think that description had been used in 50 years or so.
But then, I don't live in Texas.

promoting a "whites only" city and is complicent in the removal of black/brown/low income residents.

Maybe not the best form of protest if it has to be explained.....

Agreed on that, if nothing else; there really are better ways to go about protest than just pissing people off with what's essentially IRL trolling.

But that brings the question - Which group is doing the protesting? Is it done by those seeking equality, as a 'in your face' style protest? Or by those sympathetic to the KKK who want a return to the old days?

The same overt misogynistic behavior will be on display in 2023 during the last two years of Hillary Clinton's administration.
