Yes, it's a small country, but Costa Rica just went 75 days on 100% renewable energy.

Well done Costa Rica, well done.

The Cental American country has achieved a major clean energy milestone, meeting 100 percent of its power demand with renewable energy for 75 straight days.

“The year 2015 has been one of electricity totally friendly to the environment for Costa Rica,” the state-owned power supplier Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) said in a press release.

The ICE says the country's zero-emission milestone was enabled thanks to heavy rainfalls at four hydroelectric power facilities in the first quarter of 2015. These downpours have meant that, for the months of January, February and so far March, there has been no need to burn fossil fuels to generate electricity.

Instead, Costa Rica has been powered primarily by hydro power - both pumped storage and run-of-the-river plants - and a mixture of geothermal, wind, biomass and solar energy.

The Costa Rican people are CLEARLY groaning under the yoke of (gasp!) socialism!!

Any country to the south of the United States that goes socialist is going to get a regime change! Get the CIA! Have them stage a coup and put some violent tin-pot dictator in power!

Then, call in the Chicago boys for a little 'shock and awe' capitalism. Privatize, deregulate and end those awful socialist programs such as universal health care!

I'll tell you, when we MARCH in there, the Costa Ricans are gonna greet us as LIBERATORS!

That is wonderful news. It's good to know that it can be done on the small scale. Next: large scale!

Hey, solar power, I read somewhere, has come down eighty percent in cost in the last decade or so--there will come a day when Big Oil can Kiss Our Collective Asses. The energy companies are going to have to get in on the wind/wave etc. scene, and maybe branch out and start providing materials and services that are useful in that kind of renewable energy economy.

Just the way nature made it, lovely rain forests, ecosystems and all.

Instead of the concrete and steel man made deserts that cannot sustain life on their own.
