Mitt Romney Commissioned Pro-America Pins --- Made Them In China

Mitt Romney Commissioned Pro-America Pins, Made Them In China
By Alex Seitz-Wald on May 3, 2012 at 12:57 pm

The pin Romney commissioned

At a fundraiser in Virginia last night, Mitt Romney touted his experinece running the Salt Lake City Olympic Games in 2002, a familiar refrain, but also introduced a new rhetorical line about something more specific — lapel pins. He told a story about “We Stand United” American flag pins he commissioned for the games, which took place just months after the terror attacks on 9/11. Romney touted his creation of the pins as a means to explain how he hopes to bring Americans together:

ROMNEY: And so we created a little pin and we notified people that we’re now going to be selling these pins and the proceeds are going to go [to charity]. … I just remember going downstairs after it was announced — we were in a big, tall skyscraper in Salt Lake City, and it must have been next door I think where they were selling these pins, and there was a line all the way down the street.

Watch it:

Complicating Romney’s patriotic message is the fact that the pins were made in China, according to a website run by the Utah state government’s culture department, as TPM’s Evan McMorris-Santoro pointed out on Twitter.

he prefers their system to ours:

"I got the chance after I lost to John McCain last time, to go over to --
that was the good part of losing -- I got to go to the Olympic Games in
China. It's pretty impressive over there how quickly they can build
things, how productive they are as a society. You should see their
airport compared to our airports, their highways, their train systems.
They're moving quickly in part because the regulators see their job as
encouraging private people. It's amazing. The head of Coca-Cola said the
business environment is friendlier in China than in America. And that's
because of the regulators. That's because of government."

He'd love it and would not have to face the ridicule he will face here due to his massive defeat in November.

Meanwhile, Lynn Sweet at the Chicago Sun-Times notes that a conference call hosted by the Republican National Committee (RNC) yesterday attacking President Obama for “high unemployment” was hosted by a firm in The Philippines (apparently a subcontractor of Verizon, whom the RNC used).

EPIC FAIL!

Great ad material.

I scratched out "support our troops" and wrote in "made in china". I can't begin to tell you all the evil looks, swears yelled at me and the amount of times I was called "unAmerican", by halfwits on the freeway.

it's really all so amusing what group think does to a population.

He arrived at an airport and someone had thoughtlessly sent a foreign made automobile to pick him up for an event. He refused to take a seat in the automobile. His staff had to scramble to find a domestic automobile that could transport him to the event.

It would be commendable to insist on owning domestic vehicles, but that Senator wouldn’t even take a ride or be seen in an import.

Rmoney has never put the least bit of thought into what might in fact be “pro-America.”

Stand in front of a painted backdrop with boxes boldly proclaiming Made in the U.S.A., and put tape over anything that says "Made in China".

When the working class deserted the unions and even supported so-called "Right to Work" laws they set the stage for their economic enslavement. When 36% of American workers were union members they had a powerful and effective voice in government because their elected representatives actually represented their interest.

It is a sad fact that the working class bought the corporate propaganda that unions were unnecessary and that management would take good care of them. They took great care of them. They outsourced their jobs and even got congress to provide tax breaks for doing so, canceled their health insurance and gutted their pensions. The CE Os and top management did a magnificent job and were well rewarded for the destruction of the unions.

Until the workers come to their senses and organize they will continue to see more impoverishment of the working class. What is the most mind bogging thing are the working class who are making minimal wages and are staunch supporters of the Republican Party. A Party the is solely owned and operated at the behest of the 1 per-centers. When I hear these patsies have been laid off, I have a hard time felling any compassion for their situation. I happen to be in a situation where I hear a lot of working class people express actually hatred of President Obama while in fact he has only proposed measures that would benefit them while the Republicans have opposed every pro-labor issue. I thought "1984" was a fantasy, but I have lived to see it becme a reality.
