Specifically that phrase - "smart guy." Like when there was a period of a couple months or so when Mitt Romney was constantly referred to, specifically, as a "family man." Republicans must've gotten a memo about Cruz.

I know. That was hilarious. Many people thought he had to be smart because he had degrees from Harvard and Yale. They just couldn't accept the fact that Ivy League colleges still allow big donors to buy degrees. And they couldn't accept the notion that our country would elect such a genuinely dim person as president. We want to have faith in our important institutions, so we reject evidence that those institutions are letting us down.
