http://bluenationreview.com/nra-jackass-blames-women-dont-carry-guns-raped/CamNo, the burden of stopping rape is not on the victim being raped, you mouth-breathing dumpster of a man. No, its not the victims fault that someone decided to forcibly assault her, you sad excuse for what barely passes for a human being.
Maybe youre so desperately insecure that you constantly need to have the ability to murder another human being within arms reach. That doesnt mean a woman deserves to be raped because she doesnt own a gun.
Repeat after me: The. Rape. Is. The. Rapists. Fault.
That headline is a gross insult to jackasses everywhere!

(5,018 posts)Basically: "Those women who Cosby had sex with should have known that was what was expected of them and if they went to his hotel then they should expect to have sex with him in exchange for help with their career"
I heard this from someone who I NEVER thought I would hear it from.
This SICK, twisted garbage the right is spewing about women and rape, is working.
It is putting the victim in the seat of the rapist and making her the problem.
I am telling you, this shit when added to all the other garbage is just too much.
It better stop...and soon

(38,437 posts)The US is the most heavily armed country in the world and one of the most violent. It would be less violent if just had more access for firearms.
this is how stupid people think
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)Carried to its natural conclusion, the NRA is apparently advocating for the abolition of murder laws for anyone who kills using a gun. See, their argument would be pre-emptive self defense. "If I hadn't shot those people I was robbing, they might have come back at me, so I had to shoot them to protect myself." NRA-land verdict: Not guilty!
Really, responsible gun owners? Is this really the outfit you want as your public spokesman, the group that fronts for all owners of firearms? These are the arguments you want to make in defense of your alleged rights?

(28,272 posts)You don't see this sort of overt Blaming The Victim spewing as often as you used to---but it is a basic part of their belief system, never doubt it.

(51,473 posts)demanding 'guns on campus' (it's currently allowed, but all universities in the state voted against allowing armed persons on campus). He's using the same arguement, like giving rapists guns is going to reduce rape. But some coed might be charged with murder.

(23,155 posts)Stand your ground is only successful for white males against women or minorities. No others need apply because it won't work. You can bet your last dollar that any coed who shot a rapist would be tried for murder, after all the guy is on the football team and his folks are rich, he can't be guilty, by definition.

(597 posts)Now, I can fully see and certainly agree that there are measures to reduce the chance of sexual assault (ranging from education to better street lighting and so on).
But that is preventing assault. What advice do people have about stopping an imminent assault? If, as the OP quoted, his statement is about stopping crime that is occurring to you ("violent crimes as they occur" , exactly whose responsibility (burden, if you will) is it at that moment to stop the crime? At this point, we are well past where prevention is going to have any effect and we want to stop the crime.
Now, rape is most certainly the rapist's fault, but I do not think we can count on the rapist to suddenly develop a sense of social responsibility and be the one to stop the crime as it is happening...
Right now this discussion looks like an excuse for a lot of NRA-bashing, with absolutely nothing in the way of constructive alternatives to whatever might be implied by the combination of Cam's advice and his NRA affiliation. Now, IMO Wayne LaPierre is a nutjob, so by all means continue with the NRA-dogpiling. But if Cam is apparently giving awful advice and/or being socially tone-deaf, it would be nice to hear some useful alternatives on what people should do in the situation of "violent crimes as they occur" and you are the person they are occurring to. Obviously, for the commenters above the answer to that is not going to involve gun ownership, but in your opinion, what should it involve?

(597 posts)In fact, I was specifically requesting alternatives to it as a more useful thing to talk about than simply insulting the NRA, which to my knowledge, has not stopped any rapes or other assaults that were in the process of happening. If the NRA is giving bad advice for that situation, do you have any good advice?

me, I take the usual precautions and I would kick a would-be rapist in the nuts so hard he would NEVER rape again

(597 posts)Glad you were able contribute something to counter the NRA's obviously bad advice on the issue.
OMG aren't you a hoot?
YES, if I am in danger I will DEFEND MYSELF but I do NOT need a gun to do it

(18,318 posts)And slip under the radar of GD's TOS.
My suggestion is to familiarize oneself with the practices of situational awareness. Some of these are well-known, and has been taught for years. But some self-defense experts are only now dealing with the phenomenon of being on line all the time. Wearing an ear plug and listening to loud programming literally cuts you off from the world around you.
Another aspect to this is the rise of the cashless transaction; the average thug knows to do their business near ATMs where the technological old schoolers obtain money. Clearly, this advice leans toward self-defense in general, but some attackers might be looking for a bonus. (For example, while break-in thieves case places to lessen the chance someone is home, home invaders often WANT someone home so the need for all matter of assault -- battery, murder, kidnappings, rape -- can be satisfied as well.)
I hope this helps.

87% of the rapes, are not that rape.
and as women and girls are well aware of, too often we are blamed for our rape, the police tell us that it is a he said, she said adn wont even writer a reporter, the judge states that it is a 3 yr old's fault she was raped.
yet... we are being told y these same men, if we perceive the inevitable rape, we can murder them with no repercussion?
let me tell you about a bridge for sale. and really, why dont we throw out any inane bullshit and blame the woman, if she is raped.

Not sure if the world would be a better place, but that would cut the male population by quite a bit in very short order.
