I am very sorry for the loss of life, Mr. Heard said. But I cannot say in all honesty to the court that I believe I did anything wrong.
The verdict is wrong, Mr. Slatten told the judge. You know I am innocent, sir.
But Judge Royce C. Lamberth disagreed. He said he supported the jurys October verdict and applauded the Justice Department for uncovering the events and presenting to the world the truth about what happened at Nisour Square.

(62,325 posts)I actually thought they were tried a while ago.
I'm glad they were convicted, and hope it is just a beginning because there were massive crimes committed in Iraq. Most of the victims who have tried to get justice, have been turned away by US judges.
Airc with this case, an agreement had been made that US personel would no longer be immune from Iraqi justice.
Bush had declared that US troops and mercs could not be tried in Iraq.
He also removed the US from the ICC, which is why they couldn't handle it.
