Of course, I'm referring to the PATRIOT act, the Military Commissions Act and others.
I don't debate conservatives, so I'm not familiar with all their arguments. I'd REALLY like to hear from people familiar with the military and security communities.

(23,671 posts)Just like the sudden need to 'reform' bankruptcy law 2+ years ahead of the financial system implosion, the PTB seem to have thought they need the means to crack down on the US populace should things go to hell.
Are they psychic, or is there something else in play here?

and media supported, but that's the only argument I've been hearing lately.
Where does one turn to in times like these? To another, perhaps more progressive

What were they? Mostly they claim 'We are at war'.
Whom? Al Queda.
Where? Everywhere, we are at war with the whole world'.
They believe the US has the right to go into any country and kill people they claim are 'terrorists' and they do not need any proof. If you ask for proof, you get snide answers like 'too bad you are not with Intelligence' meaning 'you have no right to ask, let alone know what the evidence is'.
It all boils down to us adapting to a new way of looking at the world, one without Constitutional protections, which we are supposed to think is okay because it's for our 'national security. Or some will tie themselves in knots trying to make the government killing US citizens without even charging them, Constitutional. It's amazing to watch the contortions.
If you don't adapt and nod in agreement, well, some will lose it altogether and call you things like 'despicable'.
But nothing has changed regarding the excuses made for the continuation of Bush policies and the shredding of the Constitution. Just one letter.
