Conservative Lawyers to Court: Gay Marriage Will Cause 900,000 Abortions

Not The Onion!!

http://gawker.com/conservative-lawyers-to-court-gay-marriage-will-cause-1699292335

With the Supreme Court gearing up to hear arguments over what will be an historic decision on same-sex marriage later this month, a group of 100 conservative “scholars” filed a last-ditch attempt to convince the Court to put a stop to all this sin once and for all. Their argument, in short: legalizing same-sex marriage would directly lead to 900,000 more abortions in 30 years.

The logic—to use the term loosely—goes as follows: Legalizing same-sex marriage “undermines” traditional marriage. If traditional marriage loses its value, men and women are going to have less incentive to get married in the first place. Once that happens, similarly traditional values (like monogamy and waiting until marriage to have children) “will likewise crumble.” And everyone knows how much unmarried women love their abortions.

Except, try as they might, correlation will still never prove causality. Even Gene Schaerr, the former clerk of Justice Antonin Scalia who officially filed the brief, admitted to the Washington Post that “it is still too new to do a rigorous causation analysis using statistical methods.” And yet! Schaerr and co. trudge forth....

This false causality alone would be one thing, but the assertion that this would all result in the abortions of “nearly 900,000 more children of the next generation” is based on absurd and even (willfully?) incorrect assumptions. The brief argues that it “conservatively [assumes] that half of the decline in marriages over the next generation would come from women who permanently never marry as opposed to delaying marriage.” A statistic it cites as coming from this Pew study. Except that the study actually claims that only 25% (not half) of child-bearing-age adults will have never married by 2030—which is about as far as it’s comfortable going.

Cant remember the details now, but gay marriage is gonna mean no more water.

But seriously

None of this insanity means anything, 4 of the SC justices hate gay people, and we have to hope one of the known 5 fascists dont.

Do I have my math correct?

BTW, I HATE to say this but I am taking bets that they destroy ACA with their decision.

at all, anywhere, let alone in a brief to the Supreme Court, is beyond me. They're arguing, basically, that if gay people are allowed to get married, straight people won't want to get married any more (because if gay people like something it must be bad?). So there will be all these loose unmarried women running around having sex (Floozies, right? All unmarried women who have sex must be floozies and strumpets). And they wouldn't be using birth control, either (but isn't birth control evil, too?). So of course they will get pregnant. And then, being loose, sinful, libertine women, they won't want their babies and they will have abortions. 900,000 of them. The horror....

Is THAT what these nutballs are arguing?

How did these dingbats get through law school? Or, for that matter, high school?

Seriously??

Heritage Foundation: Gay Marriage Will Make All The Gross Spinsters Kill Their Babies. It’s Math!

According to the Heritage Foundation’s (LOL) “digital-first, multimedia news platform,” The Daily Signal, if the Supreme Court crams gay-marriage down our throats, as it is totally gonna do in June, that will make even more women do abortions. FACT. Gene Schaerr, a lawyer and former law clerk to Justice Antonin Scalia, has all the numbers and charts, and also the Netherlands, to prove it:
In a nutshell: A reduction in the opposite-sex marriage rate means an increase in the percentage of women who are unmarried and who, according to all available data, have much higher abortion rates than married women. And based on past experience, institutionalizing same-sex marriage poses an enormous risk of reduced opposite-sex marriage rates.

Whoa, our heads are spinning from that deductive reasoning. But Schaerr has looked at this stuff, lawyer style, and when you look at it the way he does (drunk, we think?), it is just so obvious. See, in the Netherlands, and in Spain (there is a graph, you cannot argue with a graph), fewer women got married after those nations adopted “genderless marriage.”

It is a terrific graph, in that it demonstrates that “3.2” is like 10 percent of “5,” and also “random numbers.” So, clearly, once women were allowed the right to marry a man or a woman, they decided not to marry anyone and instead get knocked up and then kill their babies, because women are fickle like that.

Is there a graph that shows the correlation between the rise of lesbian marriages leading to the rise of fewer marriages leading to the rise of abortion rates? No. But in the United States, “married women do not abort children at the same rates as cohabitating women or women living singly.” And look! Math!
Calculating the total number of abortions over an unmarried woman’s childbearing years by averaging this rate over her assumed 30-year fertility period, unmarried women would average 0.87 abortions over their lifetimes, while married women would average 0.18 abortions.

It’s math, don’t you see? MATH! And dividing leaves by applesauce gives you 5.2.

. . . . .

Although this court has been wrong so often ...

Monogamy has been pretended, but seldom realized. Gay marriage has no bearing on that. Serial monogamy is the closest many of us can come, and even that is often interrupted by adulterous forays. Gay marriage has no bearing on that.

Our human condition is rarely mitigated by superstitious prohibitions. I wish more would come to realize that reality. Mostly I hope our justices realize, as they have the best chance to impose equality.

If it weren't so tragic, it would be amusing to watch practitioners of law attempt to justify religious prejudices. It makes them ridiculous.

How the fuck did these conservative lizard people ever associate with Jesus Christ? I'm agnostic and am clearly confused on this issue. Do they hatch eggs and then flee back to the water? Fuck it, just make some more next year is the rational?

What is it that makes a fetus more important then that starving baby?

I'm lost.

"I'm sorry dear. I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you, but I just can't because those Awful Gay Marriages make me seem like I'm not even a woman!" has been said exactly one time in the history of the world. By me, and just now.

The way these guys talk about gay marriage damaging straight marriage, you'd think we were talking about the sock supply in a communist country, not the marriage supply in the United States.
