Inkster police chief resigns in wake of Dent case

By Niraj Warikoo and Robert Allen, Detroit Free Press 9:23 p.m. EDT April 22, 2015

After intense pressure from civil rights advocates, the police chief of Inkster resigned Wednesday, three months after the beating of an autoworker in her city sparked national outrage.

Chief Vicki Yost's resignation is effective immediately, said the city of Inkster in a statement. The move was praised by civil rights activists, who said they hoped it will lead to a police department that's more respectful of the community.

The city of Inkster did not address the controversy over the beating in their statement, saying: "The city would like to thank Chief Yost for her services and wish her the best in future endeavors."

The resignation came on the same day that a judge threw out a charge of cocaine possession against Floyd Dent, the man beaten by Inkster police in a traffic stop on Jan. 28th. His beating, captured on video, led to protests and anger among civil rights advocates and to felony charges against the officer.

I don't think the fact that this police chief happens to be a female has any relevance here.

That is my personal opinion. Nothing more.

In fact, I think those are the ONLY ones who have felt a little "heat"...count this as another lowly cell phone citizen Big Win. We must keep them handy and every time a police action begins...be ready to film...surreptitiously or in their face.

who was replaced by Shelley Zimmernan, woman.

We have more officers who happen to be black or female or hispanic in the force. So you will have some replace males, who happen to be white. And you will have some females resign as well.

I have no clue of the particulars of the case in the OP, but I expect more Chiefs to face the music as time moves on. And I expect more chiefs to circle the wagons too.

That city is such a shithole of crime and miscreants, corrupt cops shouldn't add to it. I hope the county or state takes over policing. Don't know about Wayne Co. Sheriffs but the Oakland Co. sheriffs (the county I live in within SE Michigan) does excellent work in fighting crime without breaking laws or people's faces. Let's hope for the best for Inkster and it's citizens.
