When Sawyer asked if Jenner cheered when Obama became the first president to even say the word "transgender" in a State of the Union address, the 65-year-old replied that he "would certainly give him credit for that."
"But not to get political," Jenner continued, "I've never been a big fan, I'm kind of more on the conservative side."
"Are your a Republican?" Sawyer asked in response, to which Jenner replied, "Yeah! Is that a bad thing? I believe in the constitution."
"Do you think that would be an unsettling thing for some people in the conservative wing of the party?" Sawyer asked.
"I've thought about that," says Jenner, adding that neither political party has a monopoly on understanding.

(12,723 posts)Let others be bigoted assholes who view anyone who votes differently from them with disdain while professing to not be prejudiced or bigots. Frankly I am kind of sick of the narrow-minded notion that every republican is a piece of shit.

Not to worry though, someone will be along to alert on it or to alert on mine, simply for making a remark about the whole thing.
We, as liberals, have a tendency to give others the knives with which they cut our throats.

And while we are talking about "narrow-minded notions," you might also acknowledge that just because someone identifies as transgender doesn't automatically make them a saint, either. He or she may still be a bigot or prejudiced in other ways. I don't particularly care about people's private/personal lives. I do care about how they affect society as a whole, and voting is part of that.
I guess my message is: please step back and take a dose of your own medicine when making pronouncements.

His remark asking if there is something wrong with being a Republican is very telling. He is simply clueless. I suspect a minute in a roomful of typical R voters would provide clarity. He should try it.

(95,337 posts)Back when abortions were illegal the wealthy never cared about abortion rights - they simply flew to other countries were abortions were legal or bribed doctors who would perform their abortions safely.
So why would Bruce (who it bothers me that decades of knowing he was a woman doesn't even have a name) would want to support a party that would find his being transgender an abomination.
Because no matter what laws the GOP would pass against Bruce it doesn't matter - the Jenner/Kardashian clan would toss a shitload of money and the GOP would over look it just for their family.
As far as I am concerned I could care less about what Bruce is going through. There are so many better role models out there in the Transgender community. Bruce Jenner is not one of them. He's part of a family that I find to be what is wrong with this country.

He actually came out and said he was "asexual" and reminded viewers that he's 65 years old. Nonetheless, I was left with the impression that he's not sexually attracted to men.

So this is a new phenomenon for me, in at least two ways.
I didn't see the interview, either. Whatever floats his boat, but I find it alarming that a republican transgender person who wishes to be called "he" is now the new (Hollywood) face of the transgender community.
Ugh!
