for having officiated at same-sex marriages, and all the Catholic justices recuse themselves because of official beliefs that leaves just Breyer to make the decision. I can probably live with that

from any abortion rights cases, anything to do with campaign financing, HCA and Wall Street regulations.

see how stupid that all is.

SCOTUS must all have a say in any and all cases that come before them, unless there is a personal gain to be had from their decision. Like it or not, their reading and application of the law is what it is. THAT is why any and all SCOTUS judges must be placed there carefully.

I simply don't understand why these people screeching for judges to recude themselves are ok with biases in one direction being removed, but they are perfectly happy with biases in another direction being used for a final decision.

I've been predicting a 6-3 vote with Kennedy and Roberts in the majority for a long time. The dissents will be both terrifying in an ISIS sort of way and comedy gold at the same time.

It's going to be really hard to justify a no vote and their legacies will be destroyed, imo.

quite a while now. I don't see him changing course at this point.

Roberts will be in the majority for two reasons - First, he's a Chief Justice and Chief Justices worry about their legacies. He is not going to be seen as being on the wrong side of history. Two, it's not a power/control issue the billionaire class cares about much, and to the extent they do, they think marriage equality is good business. And the SCOTUS isn't out front on this issue, Roberts can rationalize to himself that he is just going along with historical inevitability, which he actually is.
