According to Norwegian police, a woman abandoned her pet cat at Oslos Gardermoen airport after she was told she could not bring the animal on the plane.
The woman, who was in her thirties, had not made prior arrangements with Norwegian Airlines about bringing her feline on board.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, the woman was so worried about missing her flight that she abandoned the poor kitty in the corner of the airport.
Police said she returned to the check in desk thirty minutes later. Camera footage showed her abandoning the cat.
The animal was taken to a nearby animal shelter and the woman could be charged with animal cruelty.

(1,967 posts)I fail the see why she should be locked up and have the key thrown away over it any more than people who leave cats in animal shelters should. Sounds like she was in a rush to leave the country. We don't know what the emergency was.

(1,967 posts)I guess you are one of those people who think teen mothers who leave babies in hospital lobbies should be prosecuted infanticide.
It was bad but your response is out of proportion.. It is a clickbait story that doesn't even bother tell us why she wanted to leave the country so bad.

(56,177 posts)And a woman who could afford a flight is not exactly a teen mother who is not up to raising a baby...you're the one who is trying as hard as you can to come up with excuses...that's pathetic.

(1,967 posts)who have cats are. Maybe she is a refugee. If she was bringing her cat she was obviously trying to make a move.
I just think the throw away the key comment was over the top, and an appeal to internet mobbing. I would also observe you are not really helping animals by making them exclusively and individual problem any more than you help little babies of teen moms. What about the airline not allowing her to bring her pet? That provoked the whole Solfie's Choice incident.

(15,224 posts)Someone other than the woman who abandoned the cat in the airport.
Sheesh! I know you are an animal rescuer, joeybee12, so this is certainly not directed at you. But it boggles my mind that people are trying to excuse the behavior of this woman. The cat was saved because some other person took their time, effort and expense to get the cat to a shelter.
It's kind of like the city where I reside. Rescuers are spending their hard earned time, money, tears, and effort to save as many dogs and cats as we can. The local city pound administrator loves to go on television and talk about the reduction in the percentage euthanized. Well, duh...it's the INDIVIDUAL'S who are making that happen; not the bureaucracy.

That's the 'merkan way. Gawd sez lowly animals iz our dominion.
All three of our dogs are adopted from the county animal shelter, all three left-behinds of bad dog breeders fuck'm all. Dogs are not fashion accessories.
My sister-in-law and her family took a dog I'd found starving in the park, I'm guessing he was a home foreclosure abandonment. I'd like to think he ran off in the chaos of his family being forced to abandon their home, or he ran away from whatever home his family had found for him. But even if some despicable people threw him out of their car on a country road and sped away, he still landed in a good home.
He was in bad shape when I found him, thirsty, hungry, skin-and-bones, covered with fleas, ticks, mites, and a gut full of worms. Now he's a very gentle enthusiastic playful bundle of joy, who very obviously will never forget the day we met. I'm always greeted with many kisses, joyful yelps, and much bouncing about.
Cat left in airport, not so bad.

(11,175 posts)She's probably not the first or last pet owner to blithely assume her pet could fly with her, without making sure in advance.
It would make sense for an airline to have a standing arrangement with a local shelter or vet clinic. "No, ma'am, you can't take the cat on board or check the occupied carrier as baggage. Call a friend to come and retrieve your pet. If you can't do that, we'll take the pet and contact the Oslo Animal Hospital, which will send a representative to come and pick up the pet. There will be a surcharge of $___ plus the clinic's standard daily boarding charge for each day the pet is there. If you don't pay the surcharge and just abandon your pet, we will contact the police and you will be charged with animal cruelty."
