(27,461 posts)I was going to comment on this but then I saw your comment and i think you're right. Why is a 6-year-old's suspension news? Are schools all over the country going to have to defend even the most mundane decisions in the national media?

(25,415 posts)A lot of kids in her school know the song (it was all over the radio at one point) but have been told it is inappropriate to sing it in school. That being said, most kids that age have no clue about what "sexy" even is. Suspension is so overboard it is ridiculous.

(6,801 posts)His mom says D'Avonte got in trouble for saying the same line to the same girl last month (that time, booty shaking was apparently involved) and the assistant principal spoke to him.
Seems he's been harassing this girl for some time.

(7,904 posts)If the child was doing the "wiggle wiggle wiggle" part and had been told to stop then a suspension may have just been what he needed.
That song is a piece of crap and 1st graders should not be singing it.
On Edit: The writer of the article is a moron. He lists the video of "I'm Elmo and I know it" as coming from PBS. He actually thinks PBS and Sesame Street made that Parody?
The OP calls a 6 year old a baby and the mom calls him an adolescent...

(5,602 posts)other kids were laughing this kid would sing the song to kingdom come. 6 yrs olds don't always have control of themselves
especially boys that like to be call clowns.
MattBaggins
(7,904 posts)but that song has the whole "wiggle" part. If the boys are thrusting their groins at people they should be suspended if they won't listen. My own kids know that fracking damn song as well as all their friends and trust me the "wiggle" part is what the boys find so funny. It is a fact that kids are being exposed to more sexual content these days and teaching them what is appropriate is crucial.
I wish we had the full story but i don't think suspension may have been so out of line. Yes boys want to be boys but there are lines they can not cross.

(11,363 posts)The particular song is irrelevant. He had been warned to stop teasing the other child on a prior occasion, too.

(11,363 posts)This was not the first time. It sounds somewhat appropriate. The other child needs to be safe at school, too. Maybe when he comes back to school, he will understand that he needs to respect his classmates a little more.

That said, the suspension is beyond ridiculous.
