Moving to a blue state is less and less a possibility for escaping Republican influence...

The Pacific West is under siege by climate change (extreme drought which may be long lasting and devastating), and much of the Midwest blue states are under siege by Republicans. Both the northeast and the pacific west are super expensive. Minnesota is super cold.

I think the idea that you can escape the effects of the Republican Party is foolish, unless you happen to make a lot of money and have the privilege of mobility, or work in a big corporation where you can be transferred.

and it has the advantage of being mostly controlled by Democrats. You can tolerate a little cold in the winter if you know your government isn't trying to screw you. Anyhow, spring, summer and fall are beautiful.

I grew up in W PA and it was pretty solidly labor territory. After spending 15 years in NJ I got a good hard smack in the face at the growth of RW nutjobbery in the area I was raised.
The only solution I've found is to calmly and quietly educate one or two people at a time how they've been conned into blaming the wrong things and the wrong people for the troubles they have to deal with.

Expensive to live. Cities with Democratic Mayors should be the most affordable to live. It's all backwards. You can live like a king or queen in Alabama and that should not be the case either. We all need to go back to basics.

if you have a down coat that's good to -40 F and C.

Mostly you don't even need great thermal boots because parking is typically within a 1/4 mile walk, regardless of how much snow might be on the ground.

And that's true even if you are walking out to your ice fishing shanty.

The thing that's really strange is that after you assimilate and your superficial circulation dives a cm under your epidermis, is that even men have a tremendous need to sun bathe topless in bikini bottoms at the first sign of 45 F.
