(51,076 posts)Bernie stands out so clearly as the leader in all this. Why waste our time on the others at all?

(54,384 posts)The other 60+ million Democrats out there might just as well not bother holding primaries, I guess........
Not to belittle this poll, but there are a lot of Democrats not on DU (like about 99.99999% of them) who will have a chance to vote their choice in the primaries, and will not consult us or post their preferences on here.
This result is not yet a reason to be slapping ourselves on the back. Remember the 51 days.

(13,598 posts)For candidate? Either Clinton or O'Malley, but definitely not Sanders. The former two would be merely likely to lose the election; the latter would be absolutely 100% certain to.
For president? I don't think it will make much difference until 2020, because the Republicans will still control the House and probably the Senate, and I don't think there would be much difference in terms of the compromises the three candidates will be able to get.
For dictator, or for president in a mythical world where they could implement whatever policies they chose? Probably Sanders over Clinton - Clinton is moving left, but I think not enough for my taste. I haven't looked at Sanders' positions on economics in detail,. though, so there's a slight caveat there. I don't know enough about O'Malley's stances to rank him compared to the other two, but I suspect he's intermediate.

(45,485 posts)Here's why I support him:
Martin O'Malley:
1. Ended death penalty in Maryland
2. Prevented fracking in Maryland and put regulations in the way to prevent next GOP Gov Hogan fom easily allowing fracking.
3. Provided health insurance for 380,000
4. Reduced infant mortality to an all time low.
5. Provided meals to thousands of hungry children and moved toward a goal for eradicating childhood hunger.
6. Enacted a $10.10 living wage and a $11. minimum wage for State workers.
7. Supporter of the Dream Act
8. Cut income taxes for 86% of Marylanders (raised taxes on the rich).
9. Reformed Marylands tax code to make it more progressive.
10. Enacted some of the nations most comprehensive reforms to protect homeowners from foreclosure.
There is a lot more, but I'll only add that Mother Jones magazine called him the best candidate on environmental issues.
