A Swiss pilot known for his aerial stunts has taken to the skies again in what may be the most insane footage of his jetpack-propelled flight yet.
Aerial adventurer Yves Ross, who goes by the moniker Jetman, became the first human being in history to fly using a jet-powered wing in 2006. Since then, hes flown all over the world, including Mount Fuji, Rio de Janeiro, and the Grand Canyon.
This time, he has taken his jetpack stunts to Dubai, soaring through the skies with his newfound protege Vince Reffet, or Jetman Junior.
<snip>
We love to fly, Ross said in the video. We are exploring the limits. We are in an element of nature: air. That element we have to respect like we respect nature, its so strong, so present. We are just lucky guys that we can play in that element for some small moment.

Humans evolving...gives me hope for the future. There was a time when this kind of advancement would have been kept secret. I wonder how many generations before everyone has their own personal flight suit...like a bird. Magical.

(34,125 posts)I suspect part of the "completely free" is having tons of money and free time. Still, it is hopeful and just beautiful.

(8,028 posts)...calculators of the 60s sold for about $5000. Now, you can buy them at the $1 store.
Like everything else, the price will adjust over the next 50 years or so...

Thanks for posting it.

(8,028 posts)I've been fantasizing about flying all of my life. I've always been able to fly in my dreams.
For the first time, my flying fantasies feel as though they could become reality.

(8,636 posts)Drunk drivers are bad enough on the highway; imagine them coming through your roof at 3:00AM.
Also: limited range; they run out of fuel quickly. The U.S. Army studied jetpacks as a way of moving troops in the late 50s / early 60s. Limited range was an issue, also the stress they placed on a human body, even with young soldiers.
