http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/05/12/sherrod-brown-elizabeth-warren-trade_n_7269998.htmlReally "Sherrod"? So you have to resort to calling the President a sexist because he referred to Elizabeth Warren by her first name, (heaven forbid), and said she was political
If that is the standard, I guess the way much of DU refers to "Hillary", is also disrespectful, and by his criteria, obviously because "of her gender"
Criticizing the President on the TPP is one thing, but bringing in that he is sexist because he refers to her as "political", and by her first name is beyond ridiculous.

(854 posts)Do you know ANYTHING about Sherrod Brown, at all?
On edit: please call him a racist again and compare him the the KKK, like you did in the other thread. I find it freaking HILARIOUS.

(102,357 posts)and I don't think President Obama is, at his core, a sexist man nor did so intentionally (although it is a tactic used to diminish accomplished women in similar contexts). On the same score, former SOS and Senator Hillary Clinton has asked to be referred to as 'Hillary'.
That said, it makes me very uncomfortable when the media does so with other prominent women while referring to similarly accomplished men by their titles. THAT is very sexist.

(92,394 posts)President's attacks on Warren were too personal are free game, but effectively saying the president only did that because Elizabeth Warren is a women, makes absolutely no sense
hlthe2b
(102,357 posts)I also said, it is an intentional tactic on the part of some--especially the media to diminish accomplished women, so NO, Senator Brown is not wrong about that and it does make sense in the global context--even, if perhaps not here.

(620 posts)Well, the president of the National Organization of Women was asked about the same issue by The Hill, and said the same thing, without all the sugarcoating.
Terry ONeill said, Yes, I think it is sexist. I think the president was trying to build up his own trustworthiness on this issue by convincing us that Senator Warrens concerns are not to be taken seriously. But he did it in a sexist way.
And the subtext of Obamas remarks dismissing Warren as just another politician, she said, was just the little lady just doesnt know what shes talking about.

(13,260 posts)Kind of a liberal feminist's version of Democrat Party versus Democratic Party.
From the hill's version regarding the yahoo interview:
<snip>
O'Neill said Obama's "clear subtext is that the little lady just doesn't know what she's talking about."
"I think it was disrespectful," O'Neill said.
I'd like to see an actual transcript of the entire interview. I'd like to see the specific question to which Ms. O'Neill responded. Yeah, I don't trust the hill's integrity in reporting accurately and in context.
For those who missed the interview at yahoo from which this latest "scandal" erupted, here's the link to the full 21-2ish minute interview. The response being discussed occurs at about 15 minutes in. https://news.yahoo.com/video/exclusive-interview-president-barack-obama-123805395.html
Or, if you'd rather see the out-of-context portion currently being...discussed, here's a link to the minute and 25 seconds of that piece of the interview: https://news.yahoo.com/video/president-obama-sen-warren-elizabeth-173242186.html
There was some interesting information in the first 15 minutes of the interview. Not quite what I had been reading from the "main stream media."
I find it interesting that the media is now choosing to focus on a minute and 25 seconds during the final 5 or so minutes of the interview rather than the preceding 15 minutes that had some interesting information.
I would guess, well, dishonest, unreliable, profit-driven, "reporting" for bucks and spin.
But then, I notice the difference in meaning between "of" and "for".

Disagreeing with the President is one thing, but the verbal profane abuse is inappropriate
