Obama supports gay marriage: Shep Smith warns GOP not to be 'on the wrong side of history'

By Dylan Stableford | The Cutline – 4 hrs ago

Moments after ABC revealed that President Obama said during a taped interview with "Good Morning America" that he supports gay marriage, Fox News' Shepard Smith applauded the president, and warned conservatives not to use the evolution of Obama's view on same sex unions as part of its presidential campaign.

"The President of the United States, now in the 21st century," Smith said. "What I'm most curious about, in this time of rising debts and medical issues and all the rest, if Republicans would go out on a limb and try to make this a campaign issue while sitting very firmly, without much question, on the wrong side of history."

By contrast, Fox Nation, the aggregation/opinion website run by Fox News, did not heed Smith's advice, posting a link to ABC's story under the headline, "OBAMA FLIP FLOPS ON GAY MARRIAGE."

On Twitter, Fox Nation wrote, "OBAMA FLIP FLOPS, DECLARES WAR ON MARRIAGE."

He doesn't belong at Faux, that's for sure. Wonder how much longer it will be before they can him for stepping out of line.

Back when he and I both were in Miami I had some friends at the FOX TV station where he worked so I did meet him a few times. Always a very nice guy. Polite, honest and so good natured. FOX is lucky to have him as a foil to most of their shit.

I have no idea if he is gay or straight. But it does not matter. I think he does his best to report things as dispassionately as possible as he can at FOX.

even during the Cold War, which they want to take credit for ending - they were CLUELESS about events taking place in Eastern Europe. But the actual history of events there is never part of the conservative narrative in the U.S.

I cannot think of one issue that conservatives can claim as something good they've done for this nation. Not one.
