Voting on 'Rights'

Voting on what rights people should have is the WORST form of states' rights. President Obams should be commended for his groundbreaking statement on gay marriage. However, he then advocated throwing the issue to the states.

Without Federal intervention and laws, many people still would not have the right to vote and other basic rights in many places. If the Federal laws were to be overturned by some whacko SC decision, those rights would still be a close run thing if voted on by state. Somebody would introduce bills to make these issues a voting matter. Their passage would not be guaranteed in some areas.

They are also pecking away at women's rights in whatever manner they can. Their attack now is abortion rights and they are expanding that definition as far as they can. Anything that curtails the power of others in any manner is a win for them.

Never forget that the regressive forces always have their eyes firmly fixed on undoing whatever rights they can. The nanosecond there is any possibility of taking out some right, they are ready to go after it. Are progressives and others as ready to counter them? I don't think so. We are always behind the curve because many refuse to see the possibility of a curve. Please don't count on the better nature of whatever conscience they may possess. It is miniscule. If you could turn it into gas and put it in a motorcycle, it would run out before it was halfway around a BB.

The nuts are passing every law they can think of to suppress minority votes. They would dance in the streets at the thought of being able to vote in whole new areas.

As for those who claim to be voting a certain way because the Bible or some other religious conviction leads them, meh! Those mooks are closer to passing a version of sharia than ever.

I live in an area where it is and always will be a fight to counter the bigotry and hate. There are many good people who do fight. 40% of the vote in NC is no small number. It never enters my mind to give up. If we fall, we try our best to fall forward and hand the fight to those coming after us. It is the least we can do.

Dr.MLK would be appalled at not only the direction now taken, but also at the quibbling and lack of direct resistance in many places. Backing up at all from the ideals he represented is a shame that this nation will never get rid of for a long time.

would be nice. But it will never happen. That is why federal laws are needed.
