You have a wonderful family life. A wonderful spouse. An amazing marriage. Beautiful children. And so you choose to do what anyone else with such a blessed existence would do: You fill your house with cameras and broadcast your lives for all the world to see.
No.
You dont.
[img][/img]
Normal, happy, functional families dont yearn to have their homes filled with television producers, their childrens faces plastered on billboards and across the Internet.
[img][/img]
Families that opt to showcase their seemingly perfect, normal lives on television are not perfect. And theyre definitely not normal.

This week came the news that Americas favorite fertile, home-schooling, God-fearing Arkansas family the stars of TLCs hit show 19 Kids and Countinghad a dark, dark secret.
Josh, the eldest of Michelle and Jim Bob Duggars 750 (actually 19) children had a history of child molestation, which included multiple victims.

(4,119 posts)Little people...because I think it's important to show that they aren't freaks they are just like everyone else. Just small.
Also, people who are extremely obese because they need the money to get the surgery to save their lives.

(21,675 posts)but it's gone out of control. do you realize how many little people and super obese folks have shows now? it's overdone and ridiculous. they're just fame whores if it continues after one season.

(4,119 posts)is being very quiet. New report says that Duggar Dad hit all kids with a rod. For non-Christians there's a verse that says "spare the rod spoil the child" which apparently they took literally. I guess that's how they kept their 19 kids so well behaved.
Those who are filming the show, producer, crew, etc...they practically live with the families. How could they not have known this.

(15,124 posts)The Learning Channel. But I guess ya gotta "larn 'em" with a rod. This just keeps getting worse. Corporal punishment only teaches kids that the solution to a problem is violence. And that you should live your life in fear. These are evil and sick people.

(13,877 posts)obey when the Crown Prince came a'fondlin' Mom taught the girls. Dad taught the boys.
And yes, TLC knew...can't exactly prove it, but they do have research departments and know who they were affiliated with and those sickos...some of whom are now "retiring."

(769 posts)Bush family members are having REAL smiles. Why? They know they are one of the most powerful families walking on this world and can get away with whatever they has done.
Rest of reality-tv families, not so much. All of them are under scrutiny all the times and one fatal mistake easily cost them their shows, merchandise rights, and advertisements.

(904 posts)Well you know you have some pretty bad reality shows out there! Seriously, no they do not preach hate and seem to be very accepting of differences, disfunction, addictions, whatever!

(53,661 posts)Everyone one of these shows and flicks diss everything most liberals and secularists don't want to be ruling us. Add to that 24 and cop shows of brutality being rountine, the shows that show men and women acting like ignoramuses with no regard for others, themselves, etc.
It's the recipe for coarsening and dumbing down. Until people's heads are so full of shit they are unfit to participate in the process of democracy. They have been feeding us this view of things, from Dynasty to the stories of knights and royalty, where things once thought to be anathema and inhumane are made to look all natural and romantic.
ISIS has a social media presence that make that lifestyle look glamorous and inevitable. None of what they are beckoning us to meets any of the standards of modern liberal society. People are gobbeling it all up. We ae witnessing media brainwashing millions if not billions of people a day. For the purpose of being used as tools because they are fools and have not given one thought to what they want and need in life, so they adapt to what they see.
Monkey see and monkey do, our greatest learning ability, has been turned against all of us. We sing along and think it's all new. It's not new. It's all bullshit.
Great OP. But after a while, it will be normal families.
Look at the OC, the preppers, Doomsdayersr, the followers of Palin and other yah-hoo shows who think it's all so funny and/ or inspirational. And they vote to make it normal.
Oh, we can say they are not normal. Now. But nott for much longer. Prior to the Civil War, in much of the USA, the sale, rape and torture of human beings was normal. Then after thousands of deaths, it was seen by many to not be normal and America tried imperfectly to move on from it.
Now we can go back in time and make a future like the past. I am not optimistic as I see people walking around living in a world of fantasy that pleases for a short time but destroys them in the end. And you'd better not tell them it's wrong, hibernating bears don't care to be woken up and neither do TV viewers. It's their pleasure, their addiction.

(10,893 posts)I watch one of these "reality" shows in general, I can't help but wonder if their dysfunctional behavior is actually a facade and they act saner off-camera.

(34,845 posts)Because then TLC will go right on taking advantage of other families.

(53,661 posts)who live the clean shaven, all modern, luxurious lifestyle in real life and fool the viewers. But there is an advantage in watching it, not falling for it that gives up a hint to the trends. We used to call it, 'Seeing how high the water is in the swamp.' Since the higher it got, the more likely the alligator were going come for you to have dinner. This is what media is, a swamp from which issues some nasty things.
I say that because they affect the votera, making them unfit to participate in a democracy in a cooperative way, instead, they are against others. They are building a theocracy, a rather ugly one at that, to replace what we have now. State by state.
That's how Charles Koch said he would get the Libertarian system voted in when he lost his bid for POTUS in 1980. He knew his ideas weren't popular, So he want about to change thinking, convincing people by using the media, and packaged it for all audiences.
It's worked wonderfully. It's making life suck.
