On Holy Wars and a Plea for Peace
Older computer people like me will get the joke (it was about a fight over what order the bytes in a 16-bit word come in). This was the title of a famous plea for concord over a fight that was incredibly meaningless, ultimately.
Look at us.
Seriously. I've spent most of my adult life advocating liberal positions, both professionally and in my private time. I've donated thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of work to elect Democrats. Most of you have probably done the same.
I've worked for the Great Democratic Machine. I'm actually pretty good at what I do*. Let me let you in on some knowledge that we all thought was public, but apparently isn't:
Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton are simply not enemies. They aren't. They like each other. They agree on where this country should go. They are both running for President, and I wish them both luck (I am personally undecided on my vote; since my registration is in DC it ultimately won't matter, probably).
I imagine one of them will win the Democratic nomination. And then we have to actually win.
A Nominee Sanders will have to toe a lot of lines to avoid scaring mainstream white conservative voters. A President-Elect Sanders is going to have to deal with our current cumbersome treaty negotiations.
I hate to be an asshole, but I feel like DU never paid attention during civics. The Presidency is probably the least important Constitutional office in the country, except in times of war. And if you think the current work stoppage in the Senate is awful, just wait until we have Sanders in charge.
DU: We can do better than this current bullshit. 10 years ago I would recommend this site to anyone. Now I try to hide it from people. WTF? Let's go back to what we used to be.
* I don't work for the party now because I currently work for the government.
