Robert Trout reporting for CBS on D-Day.

This is arguably the beginning of the first anchored newscast in history. Robert Trout ended up holding the chair for about seven hours.

That was when CBS was the premier news network. And when they employed Edward R. Murrow, and yes, the incredible Robert Trout, who was woken up in early hours to cover the action on D-Day.
