I guess that is not the case?

(15,558 posts)My problem is when that same fervor is applied, not to obvious woo, but to things that are still being studied and may be in dispute. Here's where you angrily tell me everything you believe has been settled and post links to opinions and studies that support your bias.

(3,871 posts)in peer-reviewed science journals, then you can go from woo-flinger to scientist. Defending science from charlatans, quacks, anti-vaxxers, flat-Earthers, creationists, climate-deniers and their ilk is nothing of which to be ashamed - call it what ever you will.

(15,558 posts)Please be specific about the particular woo I'm owning. I simply said the character in the Dilbert cartoon reminded me of DU's self-appointed lay Science Police. You showed up and proved it by spouting nonsense and projecting crap about Flat Earthers and Climate Deniers onto me.

(15,558 posts)Lol... What does that even mean? Is there some kind of all or nothing buy in? Dude, science isn't a monolith to be worshiped, it's a mutable, evolving process. This "I'm better than you because I stand with SCIENCE!" thing is what makes you The Guy From The Internet.
xocet
(3,871 posts)that there is some sort of "all-or-nothing buy-in (sic)".
The real and, until now, unanswered question is why you apparently consider "woo hunters" to be worthy of derision - I will not be waiting for an answer to that.
Enjoy your lulz. ("Lol...What does that even mean?"

(3,871 posts)If people don't speak up against woo, more of the following is likely on the way:
or
The latter is still out there even after 4 years. Do you notice something very wrong with that 'water molecule'?
I will not further belabor the point, but there is no reason to compare people who defend science to an unfavorable character in a comic strip: i.e., "Fits the 'pro science' woo hunters to a tee."
G_j
(40,367 posts)but I have seen plenty of people lump things like acupuncture and herbal medicine together with chem trails etc. as "woo". The term is quite misused, I tend to not trust people who use it, and suspect there is some sort of agenda. These discussions could be had without throwing the nebulous "woo" lable around constantly. That's not at all very scientific IMHO.

(22,483 posts)I used to be kind of a jerk sometimes when I posted on places like Youtube but I learned and now I attempt to be always kind or at the very least, not insulting. I've even gone so far as to tell a person that their anger is hurting themselves, suggesting they try and be nicer and that will make them a happier person.
We can counter all this hate just by sending love to it.

(1,980 posts)I've seen way too many people who think that posting a bunch of links magically means they understand the subject at hand.
As for Adams personally, he is pretty much a tool. He's also had a lot of strips that ring uncomfortably true to life, so I guess even tools have their uses.
