Who have learned in history classes about the white male presidents ad nauseam and are thrilled to perhaps witness history in the making?
Mine are!

(8,175 posts)that one of Hillary's strong points was that she was a woman.
I am a woman and I would love to see a woman president of this country. Yes, it's about time. But I also care about the kind of woman we get as a president, and I don't think Hillary is the one we need (not from my perspective).
But why is it sexist to say that is one of her strong points in this election?
I think women have things to offer that men can't. Important things in running a country.
Unfortunately, Hillary is more like a man than a woman in most of her motives. She is war hawk and a corporatist, and I don't want a female POTUS with those priorities.

(35,015 posts)right now they want the candidate who is the best fit for these times and they like Bernie; especially my youngest who is 19. She and her friends think he rocks.
They'll vote for whomever becomes the Democratic nominee though.

(2,042 posts)I'll vote for the dem nominee whoever it is (as would most of du per a recent poll).
But, I'm not excited about Hilary, never have been. I'd be ok with her, that's all.
I am excited about Bernie
BreakfastClub
(765 posts)She should have been the nominee then. She would have been a much better president than Obama.
passiveporcupine
(8,175 posts)Obama has been an excellent president, in spite of teh fact he is more moderate than I would have liked. On the other hand, I think Hillary would have been even more moderate, except maybe for women's issues...but women's issues, while important to me, are only one issue I find important.

That is a good enough record to convince my 2 daughters that Hillary is far more knowledgeable on woman's issues, along with voting rights& and LGBT rights than carly whoever.
But thanks for a useless comparison anyway.

(9,359 posts)I'm pretty sure it was the same nominee who appointed her Secretary of State.
But thanks for showing your lack of reading comprehension. It's not my comparison.

The other was surprised to hear that there have been 44 presidents. She thought there had only been three. She's pretty little and didn't care about anything else.
LWolf
(46,179 posts)but I have sons who would be happy to vote for a woman, for the right woman, for POTUS.
Unfortunately, she isn't running.
catrose
(5,068 posts)because she was thrilled, thrilled I tell you, to see that the current President's daughters looked like her.
I thought that was a great moment, but then her WASP mother said, "It's about time we had a blonde girl in the White House. I was struck dumb, because in this person's lifetime there's been Susan Ford, Amy Carter, Maureen Reagan (though she didn't live in the WH), Chelsea Clinton, and Jenna Bush. She just missed Tricia Nixon. It made me realize that some people want it all, and "taking turns" is completely unfair to them.

(10,718 posts)Both of them were really happy when Obama was elected, and re-elected, and both of them would be happy to vote for Hillary (though my younger one is still too young). I was never too outspoken about politics around the house, but they figure, generally speaking, that old white guys run enough things in the country as it is.

(6,342 posts)To suggest that all women would only vote for someone based on gender?
So women are not voting for Hillary because of her experience or her brains or her politics. But they are voting for her because she's a woman?
The Democratic party seems to be obsessed with identity politics right now. It might win us 2016, but not really sure if that's a good thing for the long term. Nor do I think it will solve our bigger social and gender issues. But that's just my opinion.

(2,068 posts)Just that she's a woman. That's sad. There's an extremely important reason HRC got her ass handed to her in the 08 primaries. The visceral fear of her being just like her husband...a triangulating pretender. Same shit....different day. No thanks....I'm for the real progressive in the race.

(41,208 posts)On the other hand, as a 'daughter' when Maggie Thatcher came to power, I never felt anything but horror at her.
I don't think Hillary Clinton is a Thatcher, and would be happy to see her as president; but I don't automatically feel happy at women politicians just because they're women.
Three of the current candidates for the Labour Party leadership are women, and I like one and dislike another (the third, I know almost nothing about).
