M.D. Anderson pediatric oncologist had huge child porn stash, feds say

Dr. Dennis Hughes treated children with cancer. That's why it is so shocking to colleagues at the prestigious M.D. Anderson Cancer Center that he was charged with possession of Child Pornography.

Federal agents found thousands of files of child pornography, according to the criminal complaint, which states the doctor admitted to downloading, viewing, and erasing child pornography on his computer in Pearland.

But there was plenty that was not erased. Including video of young children engaging in sex acts with adults, and young children posing with exposed genitalia. Disturbing, to say the least, when you consider that this doctor has been in practice at M.D. Anderson since 2004, treating children with melanoma and osteosarcoma.

The hospital is now in the process of contacting as many patients as possible, as the doctor goes to court Wednesday in Galveston. His attorney, Neal Davis, says he will plead "not guilty." He is on paid administrative leave, and if convicted would lose his medical license and could spend 20 years in federal prison.

The only thing that comes to mind is that they may have been victimized themselves and want to exploit someone else with it. But why?

is that we don't want to know why. There's very little research and help for people that end up down this path, whether it's something they're simply wired towards or if it's something else.

The reaction, as you'll generally see, is that they're thrown in prison and/or killed and that's about it. It's not so much about compassion, but there's no attempt to understand because the act is considered so reviling.

If people are born this way, is there anything that can prevent that? If they become this way, what are the reasons and can we eliminate or minimize them? Causes might help in developing treatment, too.

But the situation is so repulsive to many that they refuse to even think of treatment. Just that these people are twisted and must be put away.
