E.L. James announces new book Grey, told from Christian Grey's point of view

Entertainment Weekly

Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James announced Monday that she will publish a new version of her bestselling novel from S&M-happy billionaire Christian Grey’s point of view. Fans won’t have long to wait for Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian—the book comes out on June 18, the character’s birthday.

According to a press release, the opening page of Grey reads: “This book is dedicated to those readers who asked… and asked… and asked… and asked for this.”

“Christian is a complex character,” James said, “and readers have always been fascinated by his desires and motivations, and his troubled past. Also, as anyone who has ever been in a relationship knows, there are two sides to every story. It’s been a great pleasure to return to my happy place—writing, being with Christian and Ana in their universe, and working with the fantastic team at Vintage.”

The Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy has sold over 125 million copies, making it one of the most successful publications in history.

It can fit in GD though in a discussion of sexual politics, media perception and so forth. But the OP just basically gave us a press release.

It didn't appear to have been mentioned perviously, and it was the source of endless discussion when the book and movie came out.

Maybe it's my anarchist soul but the whole controlling aspect makes me too uncomfortable.

No, I didn't bother with the books, obviously. I did get suckered into watching the movie this weekend, and I have to say the main characters have all the complexity and emotional depth of a stick of bamboo.

I didn't know until this weekend that the 50 Shades series is actually rebranded Twilight fan fiction. No, really, that's what it is. The author wrote a fan fiction novel using the Twilight characters, and it was such a hit, she ended up changing the names and releasing it as the 50 Shades novels.
