First of all, Pope Francis is the most extraordinary leader. He speaks with such clarity, speaks so differently. Hes drawing people back in the faith, which as a converted Catholic now of 25 years, I think is really cool, Bush said.
But Bush disagreed with the sentiment Pope Francis expressed in the document. Numerous scientific studies indicate that the greater part of the global warming in recent decades is due to the great concentration of greenhouse gases given off above all because of human activity, Pope Francis wrote in the encyclical, a papal letter to bishops.
I hope Im not going to get castigated for saying this by my priest back home, but I dont get economic policy from my bishops or my cardinals or my pope, Bush said. And Id like to see what he says as it relates to climate change and how that connects to these broader, deeper issue before I pass judgment. But I think religion ought to be about making us better as people and less about things that end up getting in the political realm.

(12,400 posts)to speak to their parishioners about the role of being good stewards to this planet that God created, where all living things dwell?
I would think that that would come first, as it does in the Bible.
But perhaps Jeb is reading the st. bush version.

(764 posts)The pope is bigger than a rockstar right now and most of the world except our leaders understand we are heating up this place and how to slow it down so we at least have a chance of living into the 2100s.
I imagine people might start to get a bad taste in their mouth when they think of some of our leaders because they see another Bush blowing crap in the air and telling us we love it because its a luxury.

(33,688 posts)for your brutal display of ignorance, Jebbie. The RCC hasn't been in the biz of rejecting truth in the physical sciences for a while now. You know, the Big Bang, evolution, all those things the RCC accepts but you don't. Apparently you didn't get the memo, but there's so much you don't get the index could fill a library.
