(9,951 posts)now I would say that the good citizens of SC should march on the state capitol and demand that symbol of hatred and racism be removed, failing that, it should be forcibly removed and pissed upon before being burned.

(90,755 posts)It was hard to miss. I was visiting family friends in California the summer that monstrosity went up, and I was 13. The mother in that household was an Austrian survivor of the Holocaust, and she had some rather salty opinions on the news. I could also look at a map and see where Berlin was vis a vis West Germany and East Germany.

But it is refreshing for some of our leaders to say today, it should be in a museum, where historical stuff, good, bad and ugly gets put on display.

(22,308 posts)The social and economic pressures within the USSR made that inevitable. Reagan may as well been yelling at the sun to set. Just because it happened didn't mean that his asking for it to happen caused it.
It would seem that the social pressures within SC have not developed to the point where that symbol of hatred can be seen for what it is.
