After Charleston, the time has come for Republicans to denounce hate peddlers or be stained by them
After the Charlie Hebdo murders, and every other terrorist attack committed by Muslim fundamentalists, many people demanded that Muslim leaders condemn these acts and renounce those Muslims who did preach hatred of non-Muslims, who did stoke the passions that led to the terrorist murders. Of course, that's exactly what mainstream Muslims have done, time and again. Now the time has come to ask exactly the same thing of American conservatives who wish to be considered mainstream. There can be no double standards.
Too many prominent Republicans have long danced with the devil. The time has come for them to choose between those who would tear our country apart, and those who seek to make our country a better, more just place. Republicans must fully and unreservedly denounce those who peddle fear and hatred of black Americans. They must refuse to appear with the hate peddlers, or cultivate or even accept their support in any way. And we the people must hold them to that promise by ensuring that anyone who breaks it is never again elected to public office. The time has come. In fact, the time is long past. But better late than never.

(17,320 posts)Their disingenuous strategies have been working well for THEM for quite a few years now. Why change? Apparently, somebody in America keeps voting for them.

(23,946 posts)Fox will set their brain-dead zombie hordes on them, which, coincidently, are the majority of the primary voters in Iowa and NH.....quite the quandary.
And what is stopping the cash-lusting media from doing it?

(675 posts)South Carolina governor Nikki Haley will lose her office over her support for the Confederate flag. The Republicans will lose the next Presidential election because of their racism.

(45,319 posts)assertion that they have a majority audience. They have a tiny, wee audience. The advertisers they attract easily demonstrate the low cost, high age nature of their audience.
It's time for Democrats to study up and get a grip on the facts. They are not the leading news source for Americans, not in Iowa nor in NH, nor anywhere else. They are a niche, cult market. Most of their programming gets ratings so very low that it's hard to call it mass media with a straight face.
That goes for other 'cable news' outlets as well. People on DU will go insane over something 'Morning Joe' said and yet his audience contains about 300,000 people which is a drop in the 318,000,000 and change this country has as potential viewers.

(2,959 posts)Republicans enthusiastically approve all the hate and nastiness that why they never refute it. This has been going on for years and for years we hear nothing from those people. If republicans did not approve of all of this they would quash it before it hit the streets.

(23,946 posts)if the dog whistles are too human sounding do they get media condemnation...remember the whole "rape can be good" politicians fate?
I blame the media, this racist, racist, xenophobic, science-denying GOP is their creation.
The mass media in America is a monopoly, a thinly disguised monolithic creature of white privilege on steroids.

There are basically 2 kinds of Republicans: the narcissistic, sociopathic rich and the larger voting group-- the ignorant haters who wrap themselves in the flag and their warped version of christianity which they use to justify their hate.

There are no "Republicans" any more just "Corporatists" manipulating the low information voters while running a campaign against critical thinking, and/or dissent by the people, Using consumerism and debt manipulations to undermine the will of the people. That's all I have to say 'bout that!

(129,096 posts)The cases (here and here) were interesting footnotes to earlier historical means of essentially shoving hate groups under a rock - at least temporarily. They have slowly re-emerged thanks to the internet, so the means to suppress them again, would need to change.
But the only thing they respond to that keeps them going is M.O.N.E.Y. Take that away and they are nothing.

(6,409 posts)Some Republicans may even love them. They have become so adept at denouncing them while sending them coded messages of inclusion, it's just amazing. Of course, they always jump right out there with the deflection tactics, categorizing racist violence as mental illness, a drug problem, the influence of violent video games, etc. When I hear it, it sounds like, "We love you, but we have to denounce your actions in public, but we love you, and we'll protect you, and we'll make sure you have access to weapons, and we'll block any legislation that might threaten you."
