Ted Cruz: 'Gun control means hitting what you aim at'

RED OAK, Iowa - Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) dropped a few gun control jokes during his latest swing through Iowa, days after the shooting deaths of nine people in a Charleston, South Carolina, church.

"You know the great thing about the state of Iowa is, I'm pretty sure you all define gun control the same way we do in Texas -- hitting what you aim at," Cruz said at a town hall meeting Friday in Red Oak.

Before a crowd of nearly 70 people, Cruz recalled a recent excursion to a gun range in New Hampshire that had fully automatic machine guns.

"My wife, Heidi, who is a petite, 5'2 California blonde, she was standing at the tripod unloading the full machine gun with a pink baseball cap that said 'armed and fabulous,'" he said.

You're an idiot, Cruz. A tone-deaf idiot. Enjoy the applause from your 70-person turnout, you asshole.

The Republican clown car is full of losers. One by one, they'll fall out of the car and be left on the side of the road, unnoticed.

She had to go all the way to Cali to get her hair colored? I would think some enterprising hair stylist in Texas would fill that gap.

We are not going to get more gun control laws by demonizing gun owners (like is done on this website every single day), we are not going to get more gun control laws by politicizing national tragedies.
The way we get more gun control laws is by enforcing the ones already on the books, and proving they aren't enough.
Pulling at heart strings DOES NOT change the minds of rural America. The ones that grew up around guns, and know they aren't the problem. When mass murderers kill, and politicians point out that a new law would not have prevented the tragedy, what more can be done.
What new law would have prevented the killings we have seen, outside total confiscation?
When the majority of gun crimes take place in the inner cities every single weekend, and people know that the guns were not legally obtained in the first place, what else can be done.

I think a stricter background check could help, but outside total banning of guns (in which only the criminals will have guns) nothing will work.

Again, what gun control measure, outside total confiscation, will work?

The measures already on the books are not being enforced.
When the perpetrators of the majority of crimes are already on probation, or have past convictions (I am talking inner city Milwaukee shootings here, which is what I am most familiar with) the law abiding gun owners see that no amount of new laws would stop the criminals, what more can be done? Why when a criminal is caught committing a crime with a gun, why aren't they locked up, with the key thrown away?
I don't care if your 13 or 30, use a gun enhancer with a mandatory minimum sentence, and maybe the gun crimes would go down.

I am asking an honest question here, one that seem to never be answered. What, outside a total gun ban, will stop the majority of the shootings?

Background checks will help, but a large amount of States already have them, and we still have gun violence. Why? Because the guns in the hands of criminals don't go through background checks to begin with.

I think when the everyday, legally abiding gun owners see that they are enforcing the laws on the books, and things still aren't working then and only then can you ask for more.

Red Oak couldn't get more than that to come and see a real mistake of nature up close and personal?

I'd be ashamed of that number, Ted.

c.mon huffpost. how about a "gathering?" or something. don.t prop these losers up by giving the false impression that they are drawing throngs of supporters.

i normally like huffpo but they dropped the ball on this one. bernie is drawing crowds. as an earlier poster pointed out, this was a restroom line.
