Does anyone here post on Salon's site?
Many times I'd like to but there's no way to sign up to do so. At least I can't figure out how to. Is it that I'm reading it on an iPhone as opposed to a computer?

FYI 
use your facebook or google+ account or create one on their page
from iPhones and mobile in general from computers. I have learned about that from teaching my classes. There are, for example, web sites the students have to buy, just like they buy books. Students can't sign on with iPhones to do the exercises, but students with computers can.
So yes, there's a difference.
With DU, when I am reading it on my Nook, I can't access the "search" functionality, even if I am signed in.
