They're relentless

Republicans cannot claim family values. Liberals are the ones with family values. This message from http://zpg.populationconnection.org shows it very clearly. This is really basic human stuff we're talking about. What tight assed creatures would deny families the care they need.

Dear Gregg,

They’re relentless.

Earlier today, Republicans on the House Appropriations Committee voted to eliminate all family planning aid for low-income Americans served by the Title X (ten) program. The Title X program has helped nearly 5 million women get affordable birth control and basic reproductive health services like screenings for sexually transmitted infections.

We need your help to fight back against these right-wing ideologues—please consider a gift of $50.00 now.

Unfortunately, this vote is part of a pattern. A few weeks ago they approved a bill to cripple family planning programs in the developing world. They slashed funding by 25 percent, barred aid to the United Nations Population Fund and imposed the Global Gag Rule.

These actions will deny hundreds of thousands of the most vulnerable women in the world the contraceptives they need. It will undermine decades of progress in reducing unintended pregnancy, improving maternal health and expanding women’s opportunity. During the debate, the Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee defended the actions by claiming that it was a “low priority.”

Today was more of the same idiocy. Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY) offered an amendment to restore the funding to the crucial—and only—dedicated family planning program for Americans. Not a single Republican on the committee supported it. Not. A. Single. One.

This is indefensible. If this bill becomes law, it will put the health of literally millions of women at risk. It’s fiscally irresponsible too. Every $1 of public investment in the Title X program saves $7 in future public expenditures.

Women everywhere—in the U.S. and around the world—deserve better than these nonsensical attacks on their reproductive rights.

We’re going to fight these terrible pieces of legislation every step of the way. Will you help us?

Thank you for all that you do,

Brian Dixon
Vice President
